I have bought my wife 3 Spyderco kitchen knives for Christmas. The paring knife and the Santoku are both plain edge. The other one is the 6" utility knife that is serrated. I hope she likes them. The only one I wish they had was a longer serrated one for cutting bread.

The Ko5 and Ko4 are the ones I am looking for.She could do with the smaller SE on the Ko4 but would like to have PE in the Ko5.

My wife uses her serrated ones exclusively, mainly the smaller one (ko4). I paid three times as much for the Homemaker and she never touches it. The Homemaker, to it's credit, has a more exotic handle and slightly better bladesteel. Plus it has that granton edge. I guess that's why it it so much higher priced.

It comes out of the box screaming sharp.

Spyderco used to have a really good bread knife. I have a picture of one here in my 2002 Dealer's catalog. I would like one of those myself. I have only seen one ever on Ebay. I don't guess they made very many of them for some reason.

Also in the Spyderco story book they had some plain edged Chefs knives which I was told were made out of AUS-10. I did see a pair of them on Ebay about a year ago. I'd like to see them all offered again. The Santuku is one great knife for kitchen work. :spyder:

Hi Jeff, JFJ still has two of my personal favorites, the K02PBK 9.5" French Chef's Knife and the K04PBK 6.5" Utility Knife, in stock.

My roommate and I only have two kitchen knives, both Spyderco. The paring knife and the Santoku. The paring knife is nice, but the Santoku is what is used for everything. I am very happy with both, especially the Santoku.

I just hope that my wife will use them. She has a whole drawer full of cheap stuff. She says that she does not want sharp knives. She cooks alot (a great cook) and I think if she will just give them a try that she will really appreciate a good sharp knife.

Thats the same with my wife but their are a few things you must have a sharp knife for.I think she saw how easy it was for me the clean the boneless chicken breasts with my Military, she has a time of it with her kitchen knives and doesn't do near as good of a job.
