I'm curious as to what is on the blade. The website here shows "Spyderco VG-10" etched in the blade above the handle, but pretty much every online retailer shows "Spyderco ATS-55" etched on the blade. I've also noticed three extra holes on the back of the handle, shown below.
Can someone verify what is actually on the blade and the difference in the handle?

The extra three holes are so that you can switch the knife from tip down to tip up carry.
My knife has the VG-10 under the blade. Mine is not the latest model. It does appear on the webpage that the newest models are only drilled for tip down carry... so that is why the one on the Spyderco page lacks the additional mounting holes.
I would assume the ATS-55 and extra hole models are earlier production models.
Keep in mind, the second picture is two years old.

I just bought a new Civie and it is VG-10. I believe the older edition had ATS-55 so your retailer pic is just older. Honestly I don't see a difference between the handles in your pics and compared to mine holding it up to the screen. The smaller pic in the retailer looks like different handle material but I believe that is an illusion created by the angle of the photo.
The three holes are to move the clip to that position for those that prefer to carry tip up instead of tip down. ;)

The really funny thing is that the closed one in the small inset picture appears to be one of the CF scaled ones. Those were drilled for both TU/TD carry, but only one clip was supplied, and (at least on my LH ones, it curves the wrong way for TU use).

I guess I shouldn't apply my logic to how others set up their photos. It looked like CF but as I would never mix my pics, nor show a knife I didn't have to sell (if I was a seller) I assumed it was an illusion and blotted out what was obvious to my eyes. :o
I've an August 2005 Civi and it has VG-10 on the blade. It offers the options for tip-up/tip-down right hand carry, with the clip mounted for tip-down carry. It is an all screw construction. All screws are Torx. Hope it helps.

Like you, I based my statement on assumption. In my case, I tend to think most illustrations and captions on websites are put together by folks who know more about web design than about the products being displayed on the page they are building.

Lol Paul, although that is a good point, no matter how I hold my G-10 in the light I just can't make it look like CF.

So is the picture on this site incorrect since the one on here does not show the three tiny holes on the right of the handle?

I don't know how I did it but I got some pictures of my g 10 impala that I could have sold as cf. It may be a side effect of lowering the picture quality. :)

The CF models are screwed together(like in the inset of the second pic) Old school stainless ones are rivited. I assume the G-10's are rivited as well(it and the non-tufram handled Civy's are the only ones I dont have), but from the pics they look to be.
