Navigator, Dragonfly, Cricket or Toad

Help me decide.



I need a small sheeple friendly blade for all around utility tasks. I'd love to get a CF Dragonfly if I can find one, but I thought I'd get some opinions before I make my final decision.



My regular EDC's are 1)Gunting or 2)Chinook backed up by a Calypso Jr. Ltwt. or Delica (or the lightweights alone on light carry days) <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>



I'm moving to a sheeple rich work environment, and need something that will fit in a little better. (Any excuse for another spydie <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>)

I find my Cricket great for sheeple rich areas... next spydie to buy though is the SS Dragonfly.

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

I sure like my Mouse, but it may not be as low-key as the Toad.

Almost forgot about the mouse. It's another viable choice as well.

As a first choice, I would definately stick with the Toad. If not the Toad, then the Mouse. I added a lanyard to mine and it feels and acts just like a bigger knife.

I have an Almite Navigator, an aluminium Cricket and a CF Dragonfly, all plain edge. Of the three my favourite is definitely the Dragonfly. I find the thin, flat ground blade with its fairly fine point perfect for &quot;gentleman's&quot; tasks and it seems to fit my hand better than the Navigator. I think the Dragonfly is the most elegant of the small Spydies and would recommend the stainless model if you can't find a CF one. BTW Bladeart.com had a NIB CF Dragonfly when I was looking for mine, it was a bit expensive but would be worth checking out if you're desperate.

A point worth noting is that the CF Dragonfly is light and thin enough to carry comfortably in a shirt pocket. Just the thing when you've already filled all your trouser pockets with knives <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>.

i would stick with the chinook; let them get used to it and then none of the other knives would suprise them. what about the bob lum chinese folder i think that it is so beutifull that it could live in a &quot;sheeple rich envourment&quot; with ease.

Of those you've mentioned, including the Mouse, I'd go with your initial choice, the CF Dragonfly or the Mouse.

Actually, tho I seldom am real enthused about SS handles, I do think the Dragonfly in SS is a bit more elegant looking than the FRN/CF. Of course, if like me, grip is very important to you, then CF all the way.

I have handled the Mouse. The only thing I didn't like about it was the price. It is cute as hell, and feels very good in the hand. I'm convinced that Tim Wegner has genuine ability in designing knives.

Don't get the Toad. You will regret it. Your other choices are good and the Chinese Lum and even an almite Walker plain edge would make a good choice. But don't get the Toad. It's just not much of a knife.

I think the Toad would be your best bet. I have one and I love it. Lets face it though it isn't going to be a big workhorse. It is very useful for small jobs around the office though.

I believe that the Dragonfly is the LEAST sheeple friendly knife of the four, because of blade shape and size, though the Cricket is a hair bigger. If you do get the dragonfly it would be best to get it in stainless steel, more elegant that way.

And one more thing. Make sure it is plainedge.

I'm an MD in NYC, and I carry a SS, Plainedge, delica and I don't get any second glances, even by the cops on the subway. And yet, I know if I need it, it will be there sharp and ready.

I have them all except for the Toad. First decide whether you want flat ground (Dragonfly, Toad) or hollow-ground (Navigator, Cricket, Mouse). I prefer flat ground for a small knife.

Then decide liner lock or lock back. I prefer liner lock.

Then, if possible, handle all of them.

Here are some of my experiences:

Cricket - sheeple-friendly, the talon-tip is very useful. Great handle ergonomics, and it has a liner lock (the new Meerkat will have a &quot;phanton lock&quot; details unknowm.

Dragonfly - beautiful to look at in stainless, also good handle ergonomics. Two drawbacks, blade is too large!! for some people in office environment. It is a lockback.

Navigator - similar to the Dragonfly except hollow-ground. The almite-coated version with the cut out handle makes it a bit more sheeple-friendly.

Toad - have not used. Meets all of my desires except it is way too ugly. This has kept me away from the model.

Mouse - would get this except it is a lockback.
