Greetings,

I just got my hands on DAYWALKER's design. I have to say, i am very pleased with this design, although it is not Spyderco, it is still top notch! If you have a chance to pick one of these little folders up, please do! DAYWALKER can for sure design a great knife.

Boker/Magnum BO589

Thanks Chad!

Here are some pics of it,

I've got one in my pocket right now :D

Solid little knife.

Thing is freakishly sharp, even for a 420 blade, and I don't know what Boker did to it, but it holds an edge well.

Thing flicks open like an auto too.

I love this knife. :D

I love this knife. :DMine won't flick open, but the action is very smooth, so it may just be a matter of technique (or more accurately, lack of same). :o Agree the out of the box sharpness was quite impressive. Find the "half moon" shaped studs provide much more reliable opening than the usual small cylindrical ones, and since there are two of them, left hand opening works quite well. Clip is admirably sturdy. Mine was quite tight and needed a bit of adjustment. However, if properly tensioned, I don't think anyone will ever complain about losing a SUBCOM when they reached past it into their pocket.

Deacon, you'd be proud, I actually use this one clipless

It rides with my keys, and because of it's shape, noone recognizes it as a knife(thank you Chad). Everyone assume it's a remote car starter ;)

How's that for inconspicuous carry

Yeah, those studs are much more reliable than standard studs, and being the zytel/frn, my thumb doesn't slip off as easily as a steel stud.

Flicking it open just takes practice, and I still can't do it every time, but there is a sweet spot on the stud, that a light flick with a thumb will pop the blade open really quickly.

Overall excellent knife.

Overall excellent knife. :cool:That's so funny. I've been wearing suspenders lately instead of a belt, so I repositioned the clip on mine for tip down and have been carrying it clipped on the outside of my jeans, just behind the left front pocket, in plain sight. I'm figuring folks think it's a pager or something computer related.

Far as the "flicking", I was thinking something completely different, never tried flicking the stud, :o thought you meant opening it with a flick of the wrist.

No, I tried it that way, and it's possible, but very difficult. Flicking the stud is more than sufficient for me. It's a nice discrete knife, no point in advertising I have a knife with a flamboyant flick of the wrist ;)

I guess I posted too early this morning, as this afternoon my BO 589 arrived! :D
I can attest to the freakishly sharp comment! Hair popin' sharp falls way short of describing how sharp the blade is. Freakishly sharp... that is exactly what it is!

Flicking open... well not mine, but that's OK with me. It's a little too scary to try with such a....
Freakishly Sharp Blade :)

One thing for sure, this little "biscuit" has a very secure grip. No problems there, yet it is very comfortable to hold.

Way to go Chad!

Chad, congrats, man!!!! I REALLY like that design a lot!!! Great, little "bulldog" kinda blade. I like short, wide blades like that, it elevates the stature of the short blade to unheard-of levels.

I'd definitely love to get one of those. How about a portrait of the knife, Chad? That'd be nice to hang on your wall, wouldn't it?

Chad...I am going to have to think about this one for a while...
I do not like thumb studs, unless they are the Terzuola type, but I could get used to this, with a bit of time.
The handle looks ergonomic, and if the steel was an upgraded one, I could live with it in my back pocket.
I guess I am going to have to get one, and experiment with it as an EDC...

Dear Friends,

I am only today in receipt of a Boker SubCom Folder and am truly amazed. In fairness, it did require a few licks from a Sharpmaker to bring it to a razor's edge...

Compact design, light weight, good balance, and very unobtrusive in the pocket.

Ever since my Dear Lady Lecter absconded with my stainless Cricket PE, I have been needing a replacement for it and the SubCom will suffice nicely.

This little knife is a must-have. Good show, Chad. My sincerest thanks to you!

finally got to hold one. When i met w/ Ghostrider today, he had a few new toys to show me. In truth when i first looked at the design i thought it was much larger and therefore was quite harsh in my opinions. After handling this little knife i can say that it holds its own. I love the size and shape, and with the addition of a fob it fits the hand as well as any large folder. Great job Chad. Thanks to Ghostrider, now i have to buy 1 or 2.

Aloha ALL,

Whoa! Okay, first of all, you all know where I am when I do not post or thread so it is obvious as to "where I have been as of late" and not by choice either  .

Normally, I at least try to do a quick scan of my emails and check in on my "second home" (here) but I have just been coming home from Hell and trying to catch up missed family time...oh, and sleep is something I have forgotten about lately because I don't have time to do it. :(

ANYWAY...I don't know what to say right now to all the replies to this post that KnifeBro the Rock has started! Thank you Rock for the great pics, and thank you to everyone else for their kind words towards my SUBCOM Folder design.

I still feel "funny" talking about it here, regardless of this place being OT, so I just want to again say, from my heart and FWIW:

MAHALO

NOW...be advised guys...when my :spyder: model is unleashed...top of the line ALL the way and it will be a design I can speak freely about here at "home"! :) Oh and uh, you guys will LUV it! (I hope :o )

To those of you who have an SF, you are in fact holding "tangible proof" of an "Application of Faith in Motion" :D IF you are not a believer in the Lord, that's fine, and I thank you just the same. ;) Thank you too Sal if you are reading this, for your understanding and patience. ;)

Got a lot of catching up to do here and cripes, feels like I gotta catch up in everywhere and in everything! Take care my :spyder: Brethren, and God bless

Early, SHARP Christmas :D

Got mine today from Chad... Think it's the fastest anything has gotten up here from him so far. It's pushed the lil temp out of front/right for today at least, most likely end up as a permanent watch pocket carry after I tweak the tension on the clip.

Doesn't look sharp, no burr so it doesn't feel extremely sharp, but damn does it pop hair  can't wait to see what a couple strokes freehand will do to it.

damn sharp hungry little bastard  bit me last night already.

I can at least tell you that with practice you can use it with either hand just as easily.

Just keep in mind that if you have it tip down, clipping it to your belt(I clipped front/left where it would lie if I was going iwb) results in the blade opening a little... and then brushing your hand by it to draw results in a nicely bleeding wound. :o :D

12hrs later my index is still slightly tender.

nicely done Chad :p I haven't been bit by a toy in a long time.

DUDE...be SURE the blade is housed when carrying IWB!!! Due to the size of the stud, it may have opened a bit. I got one since yesterday. I guess I am the only one in my country who has it LOL!
I am really not very sure that our shops gonna carry them.
I love it. Very sheeple friendly, people smile when you show it. Good ergos, nice fit n finish. This is a knife you can carry all the time without knowing you got it. Its gonna be part of my EDC. Thanks CLB!!!;)

Ahoj priatel,

Yep...you are the only one in "your country" that has one! ;) Mahalo for your kind words also, and I do apologize for the right hand only clip. :o

Boh ti zehnaj bro!

That sucks that it is on backorder, but then again.. It is a good thing. If the Subcom is on backorder, then people are buying them up. Good for our buddie Daywalker. ;)

Aloha Rock,

No...from what I have gathered, sometimes "backorder" simply is used to see just how many people express an interest in a knife. :( However...

I like YOUR interpretation better! :D I told The Deacon this once...it'd have been "funny" to have called Boker and said, "Hey, I just celebrated my SF by picking up a Spyderco Kiwi!...Hello?...Hello?" :p Just kidding!

God bless

Well, I'm late to the party - as usual...

It's a great little knife. It was my primary "gift opener" on Christmas morning and it got quite a workout. (Anybody else notice that they package kid's toys today like they were going to airdrop them? "Back in my day", they just tossed a bunch of stuff loose in a box.)

We remodeled our offices at work as well, and it's seen a lot of use there as we were packing / unpacking our stuff. A lot of folks borrowed it there and everyone seemed to like it. Best of all, nobody gave me those nervous looks like they do when I pull out something like a Chinook :o

Congrats again Chad.

Congrats Daywalker on a great functional knife. It seems as though it fits the bill of utility/self-defense/political correct knife all in one. I have to get at least two. It would be a good travel knife where strict strick knife laws are.
