After looking at the pics by RS2, it got me wondering if there is an equivalent to the UK Pen knife in a locking version? It looks familiar, but I'm having a hard time finding it on a web page to get specs.Any help is appreciated.
Thanks very much.

flipe8,
Honestly, the UKPK has to be used to be appreciated. I have had mine for a while now and there are not tasks it does not complete well.
Since it's inception, there has be quite a bit of talk about a locking version, does the Caly Jnr not come close? Or even to make the Caly Jnr with a G10 handle?!!!!..............................
God bless,
Simon.

Caly Jnr in VG-10 or the soon to be released Caly Jnr Mk3? ;) :D

Simon G,
Does the knife "lock up" pretty well despite being a slip joint? I guess I have it in my head I "need" a locker for most tasks
Thanks

flipe8,
In short, yes. There is a distinctive "click" when the UKPK is opened, almost as if a lock is engaging. When opened, it is nice and steady with no side to side or upward play. A push behind the hump with the thumb, "breaks" the joint for closing. This is however, quite a stiff push that is required. I don't know the exact pressure required to break the joint, but I seem to remember it was touted at somewhere around the 10-12lbs of pressure.
I'm convinced you will like it. It is a very capable tool, and lets face it, if you are here, it definitely won't be your only Spydie, so if you have to have a lock, the UKPK will just be a part of your collection!! ;) :p
Hi Flipe8,
As Simon says, the UKPK blade snaps open and really takes a pretty good push with the thumb to get it to close. While it's not a tactical, survival be all and do all wonder knife, it seems to make an awfully nice little pocket knife that can probably take care of most all routine cutting tasks. And frankly, it fits so nicely into the hand that it should make a comforting companion when walking alone through a parking garage. Try it, you'll like it :D

Calypso Jr is close, but truth be told, I think the UK Pen Knife has some improvements over the Calypso Jr. I think a locking UK Pen Knife might, in my mind, take the "Best Knife Spyderco Ever Designed" title away from the Calypso Jr. And yes, it hurts me to say that :)
I agree with Joe that the UKPK has some ergo improvements over the Caly jr. That's why I used it for the locker.
Current design calls for a bolster, lock-back, full flat ground VG-10 (& ZDP variant). Two scale materials to distinguish the VG from the ZDP.
Any suggestions on scale material would be appreciated.
If the pattern is well received, we'd follow up with a smaller version and a FRN version.

Will it have the same low-ride clip as the UKPK?
Please? :D

Burgundy micarta, or G10, might be nice for the ZDP version; to match the Caly Jr.
I am really looking forward to this knife!

Why not something a bit different? How about Kevlar reinforced in natural Kevlar colour? It's golden opaque with the Kevlar weave showing through.Take a look at a natural coloured Kevlar kayak or racing canoe to see what I'm talking about. Its' characteristics might be a bit difficult to work with , though. Truthfully, I wouldn't care what kind of material would be offered; I'd buy it!

Sal you have it perfect with the UKPK except for adding a lock. A bolster would just add weight and make the handle slick. Try skinning a deer with a bolster. I need to be able to grip the knife there. Please and thank you. :)

I'm 100 percent in agreement with Joe that the Caly Jr is the best Spyderco design to date. I have never handled the UKPK but from a design point of view, if Sal says its ergos were improved over the caly then wow!! The only thing stopping me from buying one is the lack of a lock. Now that a locking version is coming out I'm defnitely going to be picking it up! Thank you Sal!!!
Input on scale material: Same as UKPK - black G-10
...Any suggestions on scale material would be appreciated...

I would like a handle of black G10 and the blade of VG10 (and a serrated version of course :D )

Yep, the UKPN is much better in the hand than the Calypso jr.. The only thing it lacks is a lock ... as I mentioned too Sal last year in Amsterdam ;-). This design is so good that it deserves more exposure.

New handle material for the Caly Jnr, as I've said probably too many times, on too many threads, G10. Black or dark blue!
