How's everybody? I have been looking at a Temperence before the dealers run out. I have been poking around the forums, and the Temp has been praised over and over again for its utility and design. The question remains, plain or serrated? I will mainly use for camping/utility and I am leaning toward plain edge. On the subject of fixed blades, is the S.P.O.T any good, or am I better off waiting for the Swick? I have heard very little, and a neck knife would be handy. Any advice or experience with these knives would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help.
Oh buy the way, if I can find a black bladed temp, should I snatch it up, or would it be too valuable to use?

the temp is a great FB knife. I ended up trading mine in for a diferent model, but do miss it. For general utility work i would think PE would suit you fine and will be easier to maintain an edge in the field. However for heavy cutting SE is almost impossible to beat.
the spot is a great little knife, but was not designed for utility work, and has Aus6 blade steel. Which takes an edge easily and performs better than i origionally thought, but does dull rather quick. If you go w/ the Vg-10 spot that is a sound choice IMO. However the swick will have s30v in its corner, so i guess it is all a matter of which steel and features you want. the reverse S blade is tricky to sharpen, but both aus6 and vg10 take an edge easier than s30v. there are plenty of more knowledgeable members that can make more sense of this then i have.

Let me give you a bit of advice with the fixed blade Temperance. I do heartily recommend that you get both versions. The plain edge and the serrated edge both. I got 2 sets of them and believe me they get used a lot. You can use them as tactical knives for sure. But you just wouldn't believe how many kitchen duties you can do with both blade variations. There is something about that serrated versiont that even blows my other 2 Spyderco kitchen knives away. That blade is a lot more sturdy for one thing on the Temperance and I can cut through stuff like cabbage and califlour a lot better than I can with the other Spyderco kitchen knives. It is probably the most versatile fixed blade I have ever handled. I just found out about them this year back in March. I may even get me a couple more for in case I was to lose one. They are so multi-functional you just have to use them extensively to see what I am talking about. And by the way how many kitchen knives are you ever going to see that have VG-10 blade steel  ? You won't be sorry, I assure you. It will be a great investment ;) :spyder:

Grab one of the FB Spydie Morans. You will not be disappointed. It's my favorite FB Spydie.

Just get both. Plain and serrated. :) I had a plain edge, but traded it off. I want a serrated one instead, to go with my Perrin, and Moran.
Let us know what you decide.

I got my sister the SPOT for christmas and ofcours I had to make sure it was working right ;) .The reverse S blade is very efective for cutting all kinds of things just put the tip in and then slice. But between the Swick and the SPOT it just depends on what you use it for, if you're cutting food or just whittling the Swick would be good, on the other hand if you're cutting alot of boxes than the SPOT rules, but also the SPOT is dicontinued so you might want to get one soon.
