Oh happy days! It's taken about a year and a half, but I got my Rookie,SS PE, yesterday. This is actually the second one I've owned, but got rid of my first one some time ago, only to realize how much I liked it after it was gone. I know I paid more than I should've, but if you want to play, you gotta pay! It's better than 99% mint with the exception of a few handling marks on the handle . In some ways I was hoping for it to be in less than pristine condition to make it easier to use right off the bat, but I'll change that in no time. I really think it's as close to perfection by my definition of an EDC as I've yet to see or own.
I used it last night at work for food prep and I forgot how well it sliced and diced, making short work of the carrots and green peppers.BTW, my good friend and partner squad314, had little problem with his veggies either, thanks to his all-black Delica in hand at the other end of the kitchen. The two of us are trying our best to convert some of the other guys to the Spyderco "Faith" with some success.
I'll have to get some pics up, once I figure how to do it.
Now, if I can just get one of those G10 Rookies... :)

Well done on your rookie. :)

I picked one up a few months ago, i must admit it hasn't seen any pocket time.

I hope you can covert your friends, but with a Spyderco i think that task will be that much easier.. :D

Enjoy it.. :)

Congrats flipe.

I bought a G10/SE one a while back.

Hasn't seen much pocket time because I heard negative comments about G10 holding the screws of the clip. Don't wanna lose it.

Beautiful little knife though.

spydutch,
I wonder if the screws could be set in epoxy to keep them from coming out? The only problem would be that it would likely be permanent. Thanks for the pics. :)

I'll testify to Flip's new Rookie being a sweet knife. After calling him everyday to see if it arrived,I was some happy to see it last night.I had never seen one in person, but Flip had told me how much he missed his last one.One of the most impressive things for me was how solidly it locked up.It also feels great in the hand, and man were the onions flying in the firehouse last night.
As far as converting the uninitiated,we just had a brand new Senior man transferred into our house.Flip and I immediately noticed a Knife clipped into his pocket.(non-spydie).Well before long the Spydies were out and you could see the light come on as soon as he handled them.
Anyhow, when we knocked off this morning,Flip and I discussed what we were doing on the days off.One thing he was happy to report he would not be doing was.....waiting for the mailman,YEEHAA!

Congrats Flipe8, know you were anxious to get one of those. Spydutch, is your G-10 Rookie unlined? All that I have ever seen have a single liner on the clip side, so there's no problem with screws pulling out.

Yup - mine is like Spydutchs. Liner on one side. This is such neat little package - an excellent edc! And it feels soo good in the hand. :D

Congrats :D

That is a pretty tough find, especially in PE.

Congrats on your new fine toy. I wish they bring back the Rookie, even in a short run (say CF and ZDP-189) :D

No liners on mine Deacon. That's the reason I don't carry it as much as I would like. If it had a liner on the clip side, I wouldn't worry as much.

On detail shots, my mobile sure has it's limitations, but I hope it's clear from the pictures.

Sorry for the bad pics :o

Thanks Spydutch, then that increases the number of variant from at least five, to at least seven, since it makes sense that the unlined ones would have been offered in PE and SE at least.

Are you beginning to realize flipe8, that you've walked into "the great Spyderswamp?" ;)

I have 2 G-10 Rookies. One of them has a liner and the other does not. Are the liner-less ones really that collectible? I have a stainless one also. It's kind of strange because I see these Rookies all over the place price-wise. I got my stainless PE version last summer on Ebay for $52. But about a month later I seen the same model go for over $100. There are about 4 Spydercos that follow that pattern.

But I would like to know some numbers on these "linerless" Rookies. This one linerless G-10 version I have is the only one I've ever seen. And I've seen quite a few of them at shows and so forth.

FWIW, I did a little search through former threads and it appears that Spyderco first made the Rookie linerless and after that they made some with a liner on the clipside. This because the linerless G10 should not hold the clip screws that well.

I asked Amanda if the G10 is really that bad for holding the clip screws.

I'll let you know when I have an answer.

I got a very early reply(thanks Amanda  )

This is what Amanda said:

"I would recomment NOT carrying it in your back pockets. Other than that you should be alright. If you plan on carrying it everyday, the wear on the G10 coming in and out of your pocket will loosen the clip after a while(years)
If you catch the clip on something, it will strip out the G10. The other thing that I have heard, and I do not know if you have acces to it, is JB Weld. I have heard that JB Weld worked really well with holding the clips and screws on extra tight. Hope that helps."

The steel also is different on them too.
