Fellow Spydernuts...

Which Spydie, in your opinion : Is the ONE?

I mean, off all the knives in the SKU, you will undoubtedly find one which you feel -- is the ultimate spydie...

To me : Endura is THE ONE...

CHINOOK,now that is the king of Spyderco.Big ,bad and just doesn't even care, best steel at the best price.Strong and solid as it gets in the knife world.
All you can think when you hold this knife is "Come play with the devil"...

Whosyour...the Chinook is that good, huh?

I've been thinking about buying a Chinook. Sounds like I'd better do it. I may have some questions for you...

My choice for "the one" quintessential Spydie; the one that just screams "Spyderco!"

I'd have to agree with you on that one, Jeff. The 'one' has got to be the fully serrated stainless steel police. I own that plus about 11-13 other spyderco's and must say it fits in your hand great, has a great blade, and gets lost in your pocket.

2 sides to this one...

Out in the open, it's the Delica/Endura line
For heavy use, it's the Wegner/jr...

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

Tough one, really glad I don't have to limit myself to just one.

If I could only own one knife that I had to use for everything, it would be my plain edged Military.
Although if I could carry a second one for use in "civilised" company it would be my SS Delica.

Am having trouble deciding if you mean "the one Spydie" that I would choose if I could only have one, or the one that best represents what Spyderco's knives are about.

If it is the one that best represents what Spyderco knives are about, then the one I'd choose for that category is the Native FRN. (Tho I have to admit that the Endura and Delica may deserve that role.)

If I could only choose to have one Spyderco, it would be my Wegner for sure.

Can't stop without saying that maybe the Shaparia best represents what Spyderco is about. I am certain that no other company would have produced such an unusual looking knife. Spyderco is willing to take chances, to go with something unusual or odd, or whatever. That's why its my favorite manufacturer.

I'll cast my vote for the Military, because it is one of the most advanced Spydies and contains all the Spyderco firsts and innovations. For instance apart from the hole and clip, there's the nested liner, offset arc ramp, eccentric pivot and CPM-440V steel. However I think it'll be knocked off its perch by the ATR .

Alright folks ~ Here are the top contenders.. So far, we have the Military right on top with Endura *~Yeahooo!~* on the second spot followed by SS Police...

Tally (9/8/01)
Military - 5
Endura - 4
SS Police - 2
Worker - 2
Wegner - 2
Cricket - 1
Civilian - 1

Yes the chinook is that good.Plain edge that cuts as long as a serrated blade, beefy weight for a fist load/hammer,and you couldn't break the lock with a bat.

First it's not really fair to ask us to choose just "one". Spyderco and other knife makers hav designed a variety of tools to meet needs and tastes.

I have one of the old ATS-34 black Military knives, but I keep it for show. My carry of choice is one of the newer Military jobs. It's a workhorse knife that is extremely light for its size.

I have several other Spyderco knives that I carry as the need or desire suits me. I also like my Spyderench (handy) and Starmate (beautiful, but heavier) and then the rest, but much less often.

One way or the other, you pay for your tools!

With my Spyderco affliction I have to steal a line from an old song "love the one you're with" Lately my preferred EDC is the Calypso JR lightweight plainedge. I love that little knife, sharp as a razor when I got it, and lots of dead cardboard later it still is. Before I got the Calypso it was the Delica 50/50 which sometimes gets carried along with the Calypso.
If I worked outside I think my Starmate or new LUM would get the nod as EDC.
After all that babbling I guess my favorite EDC (in my office job) is the Calypso JR lightweight, but if I could only keep one Spyderco of all that I own, it would probably be my new LUM Tanto. It's solid as a rock with dual steel liners and G-10 scales, and it's very nice looking piece.

Endura in FRN. This knife just spoke to me when I first picked it up, and it went home in my jeans pocket. This one is my EDC carry, my anchor knife around which all others must revolve.

Never handled the Chinook, though I really like the looks and will have to someday. Second to the Endura would have to be the Delica. I've handled that before and like it, but my current financial situation permits only one at a time.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

I'll second the Calypso, Sr. [at least for the moment]. Good steel, decent blade length, micarta handles, and an absolutely lovely shape. I've got both pe and serr., and am usually carrying one or the other.

I also like the delica and my ss harpy for edc, so I suppose they're 2nd and 3rd.

Ummmm... a Harpy! I guess most of you dudes revere your Millie as "The One", and I can't agree more!
Say, just a matter of curiosity ~ What improvements would you like to see on the Military?

Very good question Samo. Despite the fact that the Military is my choice (as always), there are some things I´d like to change.

1. The tip is IMHO too thin and delicate for such a big and sturdy knife.
2. Instead of the liner locking system, I´d much prefer a strong lock back like the one on the Chinook, or even better: compression lock.
3. The laynard hole should be bigger.
4. There should be a sheath or pouch to such a big knife.

The last point of view is my very personal one. I´d like the Military with VG-10 or BG-42 instead of CPM440V.

Despite all, the Military is IMO the best of all Spydies

The One To Me:my numbered Starmate (until there isn't a semi serrated Milly with a sronger tip.Maybe beyond.)Sorry folks.
In my country (Hungary, Europe), in a good knife shop The One is still the Police ss. with SPYDER edge, the two is the 50/50 serrated Endura FRN, the three is the pe Delica FRN.They like the Calypso jr. and the Native too.

The Worker. PlainEdge or SpyderEdge makes no difference to me. It was the first Spyderco ever and that makes it the most innovative of them all(in my eyes). All other Spydercos and most other knives on the market are an adaption of the Worker in some form or another.
The Worker IS THE ONE.
