Where are all the black blade plain edge natives C41PBBK? My wife bought one back in December but I haven't seen too many around. The collector numbered ones have not yet been released either. I guess when Spyderco catches up they will make a larger run of these - Great knife.

I saw one on eBay and that's it. There has not been much talk about them.

I almost broke my mouse clicking on this thread when I saw it. PE Black Blade Native? Even the slightest hint of one gets my blood pressure up.

Aside from not wanting reflection when you're taking out a sentry (something we all do frequently  ), what is the appeal of a black blade?

I saw them on eBay, Sawyer's was actually selling them. So I gave them a call and they said they only got 3 in, and he wasn't even informed they would be coming. So, not sure on the BB PE Native, but I hope they are coming.

:spyder: It's a dangerous slippery slope to give this kind of ammo to knife collection hating fishwives. After owning one spyderco knife future purchases have little to do with need, the knives are just that good.
The rationale of the collector is that your other bills are paid, you have the disposable cash and most importantly, you want the knife. :spyder:

Here are some quick pictures. I'll take some better ones when the lighting is better.

Sorry. To rephrase my question; Do people like black blades just for the looks, or are there any other practical advantages?

It helps protect the blade from corrosion, and keeps reflectivity(is that even a word  ) to a minimum.
I've never seen one of those before, but there's the pic right in front of me, so it obviously exists. Another :spyder: myth debunked. :D

Thank you for that observation! :p ;)
If there is one spare out there I need it! :D I certainly missed these being sold. Not like me at all. :o
Cheers, Ken
That is three I "need"! Black blade PE, Enduring freedom and Blue G-10 Blade forum. Will it never end?

I would think that these will come out in quantity in the near future. The collector #'d ones have not yet been released. Maybe a few slipped out of the factory before they were supposed to.

Thanks for the picture westfork. I saw them on eBay but they looked like they may have been altered or a photoshop job, but your's shows it to be pretty darn real.

Interesting. They must have only made up a handful of them. I haven't seen any of the collectors selling the PE version, so I'm betting that Spyderco made up less than 100 and that they are all unnumbered.

OK, the sun came out so here is a little clearer picture. I included the end of the box that shows the model designation. This knife is enjoying its brief period of fame, just wait till another thousand or so ship from the factory.

I just this minute got off the phone with Sawyers, I have one being shipped Monday. I asked twice if this was a PE, he said yes, although he had to go looking for it in inventory. I also asked what was up with this PE Black Blade Native, it's not cataloged (unless I missed it) and they said they had no real info, "it's a sprint run". I've been know to sleep through a lot of stuff. :p
Well, I just like the look of the black blade is all.

It's marked JE, which IIRC that means it was Oct. 2005. Weird that it'd slip by us all for that long. Unless they were holding them since then and releasing them just now.

Any update on this one? Anyone else have one, or know where they are available?
I had a Walmart Native, but gave it to a friend. I've been waiting for the S125V sprint run to get another, but it looks like that has been delayed. I admit to being intrigued by the DLC coating on the black blades. I may have to get one to tide me over :D

Spyderco made about 400 of the BB PE Natives. I guess to check the market for them. I saw them on a couple of knife purveyors' websites and placed orders. About two weeks later I was informed that they contacted Spyderco and were told that those 400 or so was it, no more being made. So I guess this makes them somewhat of a rare bird. More rare than the shell inlaid models as they made 500 each of those. Better get your hands on one if you see one.

Yep,
Very rare indeed. I'm so lucky to have 2 of these babies :D They are bloody expensive to snaffle up when they do get advertised for sale. IMHO worth it for their rarity factor.
Just received my second one a couple of weeks ago..... not sure if I'll keep the spare though
If you are lucky enough to have one...hang on to it.
Cheers
Daniel
