100% for tip down....................see, I knew I was right!! :D :p

So there was only two votes when I posted this. Perhaps I need to look at a career in politics!

I voted tip down because I love my Para, and I've gotten use to it that way. If I am carrying with lanyard, I prefer tip up so that the lanyard dangles out of my pocket. I probably should have voted "doesn't matter", but it's too late now

I vote tip up just cause most of my folders happen to be tip up and I'm used to it. I also prefer the feeling and look of the clip slightly better on a tip up.

You mean there are methods other than tip-up? :D

Actually, I believe this poll has been done before, but I didn't feel like looking it up.

I prefer tip-up because it naturally places the knife in a better position for opening for me. I use to do tip-down :o , then I became enlightened. :D

Tip up is the only way to go!

It's not so much that I prefer tip-up, but that of the knives I like, nearly all of them are tip-up.

TU for me.

After much trial and error and a lot of money lost in reselling knives that are tip down, it's got to be tip up for me always for Spydies, customs are another story.....must be the hump.
Cheers,
Rob

Hey All, For me it is "Tip-Up". It's just so much more easier for me to open when pulled from the pocket, especially if needed in a hurry. ;) Take Care All.

God Bless :)

Tip down. I started with a delica in tip up and I didn't even think of tip down.

For the life of me I don't understand this age old question.

To me the important thing is ease of carry, this is gained or lost by the position of the clip.
Examples...
The steel handle C10 & C11. The way the clip comes from the factory, it is slightly difficult to reach into your pocket if the knife is there. Switching the clip position to the butt end of the knife creates a smooth surface, so when reaching into your pocket, your hand just flows over the :spyder: knife clipped there.

Just my $.02

Doesn't matter, as long as it has a :spyder: hole. :)

Although I generally remove the clip and carry loose in my pocket, the only way I would carry clipped, if I were to do so, would be tip down. Tip up may be marginally "faster", but when you fight gravity, you are bound to lose eventually.

Tip-up. I used to prefer tip-down for some reason, but then I got my Native and I was a believer. ;) Tip-down seems awkward now.

Tip up for sure. the only tip downs I have is Grey and Burg Caly jrs which I do love for sure but tip up options would be the icing on the cake for me.

I prefer tip down as I have about 20 years of muscle memory expecting that when I reach for a Clipit. Recently, I began wavering but a comment by Michael reinforced tip down for me.

I prefer tip down. With most of my spyders I've set the blades quite loose so I can flick them open and with tip up I dont like it much when I reach into my pocket and they've opened a little. Bit rough on the hand.

Normally I prefer tip up, but on Caly´s tip down is the way to go, the same for the Police. Like both, but tip up seems to be faster at taking the knife out and open.

Me too, I am a creature of habit. But in the end, it wouldn't really make a difference.

Aloha!

Tip-UP for me.

However, at this point in my knifelife, it doesn't matter. :D

God bless

I only carried tip-up folders in my teenage days and always thought that it was the best that is possible. Then came my black Caly Jr :D It was somehow awkward to change from tip-up to tip down but after getting used to it all I can say is that it works best for me.

Nowadays I end up holding the knife in a way that makes it impossible to open it without turning it aroud completely when I try to get a tip-up knife out of my pocket instinctibly. I just tried that recently with my Dragonfly

So it's tip-down for me!

Cheers, Rob

Tip up for me, too much dust and junk gets in the pivot TD.

Tip-up.

Feels more natural when you draw the knife from the pocket. Also, blade (and point) is actually turned to the lateral side of the pocket - safely away from my thumb when I draw the knife.

But I don't mind tip-down that much. Caly jr. was my long-time EDC... ;)

I mostly carry tip up, but i am begging to enjoy tip down. A while back my polliwog opened in my pocket. No blood but the thought of what could have happened...

Anyway i generally just go with what im carring, making sure my pivots are tight.

I just tend to carry knives with tip up.

Another tip-up acolyte here!

All my serious knives are tip-up. My utility knives are for fun, so there it doesn't matter as much.

I'm used to both so I don't really care. I mean, I don't choose a knife because of it.
If the knife would have the option, I'd mount the clip for tip up. Easier to reach in your pocket and taking my knife and open it feels more natural to me.

i dont care as long as it works :D

At this point I am indifferent to either way. I have not needed to whip a knife out in self defense. So, I can pull it out and get it going the right direction, flip it open with one or two hands, etc.

If it were in a self defense situation, I'd likely be fumbling around a bit, anyway. Tip up or down is not going to matter much more at that point.

I don't have a special prefference, but I've been carying tip down lately. First it was the Adventura, now the CF Millie :D
