View Full Version : Pelican or Streamlight for QUALITY

Specifics: Pelican M6 1 Watt LED vs. Streamlight TL-2 1 Watt LED
I don't know if anyone has experience with either of these, I personally have a Pelican M6 LED. A good friend asked my advice before he bought a new light, which product I thought was better. Does anyone have any opinions regarding the QUALITY of these two brands? I've been VERY happy with my Pelican. I told my buddy I'd ask around. I told him the first bit of response I'll get would be to buy a Surefire, but I believe Surefire LED models are slightly more than the $50-$70 range of the Pelican and Streamlight models mentioned.
Any generic (brand related) or specific (model related) information would be great. I told him I leaned toward the M6 because it can be had for cheaper, is well made, and seems to be about the same brightness (based on specs, again I have no experience with Streamlight).
Thanks!

The only other I could throw into the mix would be the Inova XO. I'm quite happy with mine. It take the same Lithium batteries as the Pelican, should be around the same size. It has decent throw with the 1 watt LED.
Hope your friend finds one that fits the bill.

I have tried them both, and surefire.
I used to be a firm believer in streamlight, I still ove their products, great made, reliable...
but daily carry for a LED light is the Inova X1, gotta love the brightness it makes from just one AA batterie and the size of it.
if you havent looked at Inovas products, you should, you may be missing out.
but between pelican and streamlight, streamlight all the way.

i havent used the pelican so i cant comment, however i have used the TL2-LED several times and IMO for its size in the LED field you wont find a much better light in its price range. Personally i'd go with an Inova X5 if it was me, but if you like the feel of the TL2 than stick with what works. Also it has a pocket clip which is always a bonus. I have a friend at work who carries a TL2-LED daily and recomends it to customers daily. Then you have the days where i work and promote Surefire and Inova, makes for some frustrating arguements between the two of us. Like I said stick w/ what works best for you, but take a look at the Inova. You may just save some $ that can be used for other hobbies, and you wont sacrifice quality.

Well, like I said, it's not for me. I'm very fond of my Pelican. I do like the Inova AA series lights, too. I think I'm going to tell him to just go try them all out. I think he's leaning toward the Streamlight because he likes the looks of it. It is a nice looking light. My Pelican was a gift from my wife, so I'm especially fond of it- ugly or not. :D

I haven't used these, the only lights I carry are my Photon Freedom on my keychain and a Nuwai Q-III. I went over to Candle Power Forums and asked them. Similar to knives I just wanted one to carry not collect.
Well, I got sucked into knives, and I didn't want the same to happen with lights. If someone just told me to buy a Delica like 2 years ago I would have done it and that'd be that.
So that's what I told them at CPF, just tell me like the Delica of the flashlight world and they said Nuwai Q-III, so that's that for my flashlights (I didn't want to spend the $$$ on a Surefire even though that was highly recommended).
I live in the city, so between the Photon and the Q-III I'm very happy with both, don't think I need anything else.

Aloha Mike,
I have used both brands mentioned...as well as Inova's. I used to carry a Streamlight Scorpion on duty, but the darn batteries were costing a small fortune replacing them! :o Now I use an Inova T1. Emits a pretty good amount of light for what I need to do with it AND it only runs off of one CR123A battery. I been wanting to try the Streamlight Twin Task line though, as those run off of "normal" AA batteries.
Pelicans I have used for night diving, but I have had better results using Streamlights. LOL, Pelicans are somewhat "ugly", but hey, they work!
God bless

I've handled both Peli's and Streamlights, both quality lights, you can't go wrong either way, personally though, i prefer SureFire
Surefire's beam pattern is gorgeous, the right balance between hotspot and flood/spill, designed more for close to medium distance work, the Streamlights are more optomized for throw
if i need a thrower, i have my 6D cell Maglite, and my "LuxMag 3D" (a 3 D cell Mag with the Luxeon "bulb" from a Sears 3 AAA "Endurable" Luxeon worklight, the Endurable 3AAA uses a 1 watt Luxeon LED mounted on a "normal" PR-based flashlight bulb, a simple 30 second drop in upgrade that uses all the stock components, and gives a brighter, more usable, and most importantly *shockproof* beam of light, no fragile filament to break
best $20 upgrade i ever did, makes the 3D Mag usable again, and i no longer care if the light gets dropped, as there's no filament to break....
another great little light, if you want a simple, basic light that puts out great output on a single AA battery, is the Fenix L1 series, 1 watt Luxeon LED, powered by a single AA cell, it was the '05 Flashlight of the Year on Candlepowerforums....
I have a Streamlight Scorpion and Twin Task(small one) they are both great lights. I like being able to switch between LED and Xenon on the Twin Task. Great little light. I had a small Pelican years ago...back when they were plastic, I hear they are aluminum now.
Good Luck!!!

That is the exact same lineup as I have Craig. Good lights but I am getting an itch to try perhaps a Surefire Aviator. Have started saving but it's a long way to go.
I would like to save up for a Outdoorsman...I really like the looks of it. Streamlights are good. Also want to pick up a Nitrolon...as seem have been well reviewed as a cheap/good light!

Hey Daywalker,
I have a twintask, I'm not sure if they all work this way but mine is activated by only one push button switch. That means I have to cycle through off, led, then the uhhh "bright bulb", and then back to off. I would prefer you could activate just one or the other based on what you want rather than cycling through. Hope that makes sense. ;)

that was a bad idea I think, the bigger twin task has dual switches, but they skimped on the little one, and I think that is partial to due with their lack of sales on that model.
Yea, the on/off/on switching is the pits. I have not looked at the larger dual button model.
