i went to sharpen a VERY dull serrated kitchen knife would you recomend at all using the medium course couners first? would it be possible to get a deseable edge faster?

To answer your question, Yes I would. When the cutlery is very dull, the edge has to be set again, you use the medium sticks to do this. Just follow Sal's instuctions on the video. RKBA!
