Hey All, I know I've mentioned on several occasions that I Race BMX. BMX Racing is one of my Passions (My Lord and Savior being First) along with Spyderco/Knife Collecting, and Hiking. Best way I can explain this, is it is much like Motorcross, except we race Pedal Bikes usually a 20 inch bike/racer and 24 inch/Cruiser. The track is much like a Motorcross track, except the dirt isn't as loose. It is hard-packed, much like cement. We ride at a full blown sprint as soon as the gate drops, from start to finish. We do one lap, and the track is usually about 1/4 of a mile long. The tracks vary in design with various types of jumps (singles, rollers, doubles, triples, step-up, step-downs, tabletops, step-doubles, etc...) and Berms/turns. Some of the better tracks have the Berms/turns Paved. Fast, but if you go down..........YIKES   :D . Usually a max of "8" riders in a gate, usually 3 motos (3 separate races/process of elimination) and a "Main/Main Event". Usuall the top 2 to 4 riders go to the Main (depending on amount of riders in a set class). Ages range from 5 y/o up to 60+ y/o. Youngest I've seen race is 3 y/o and oldes around 67 y/o. Boys/Girls classes and Men/Women Classes. Classes are Rookie, Novice, Expert, Single A Pro and AA Pro (Double A Pro) and yes the Girls class and Elite Girls Class (Women Pros) and yes they are very, very fast  . There are two sanctioning bodies the ABA (American Bicycle League) and the NBL (National Bicycle League). I race NBL. It is fun for all, and It's a Huge Family Environment. I hope this explains a bit. For more info, just go to www.bmxmania.com they have various pictures and write-ups about what we do. If you have any questions feel free to ask anytime. Here is a Pic of me, from a race During the Grand National in Louisville, KY (500 plus motos and over 3500 riders from around the World).
God Bless All :)

Hey Raven,
Thats way cool that you still race. I raced BMX whien I was a little boy 8 to 10 if I remeber.. it was lots of fun for sure.. I am sure its come along way since those days.. I used to ride a 20" Redline Squareback,, Was a great bike..I mostly did it in my older brothers shadow but I still had lots of fun.
Thanks for sharing brought back some fun memories.

Aloha ALL,
raven, I was just waiting for you to start a thread about this! ;) OBTW, Tank, Redline was the bike of choice back in my days!
I used to race when I was in intermediate school, but did mostly a LOT of ramp, skatepark, and just street freestyle. I entered a few races, got trophies from all of 'em...but then got more into freestyle, i.e: "pre-XGames" stuff. Lotta bumps, strains, sprains...an occasional pedal stuck IN my shin, roadrash galore... ;)
Nice pic raven...however, it'd have been nice to see just how far you were leading the pack! ;)
God bless and take care

Little biased here, but I'm going to have to say BMX are evil bikes. My first really nice accident was with a BMX, turned it into a parts bike real quick :D
Lets just say that biking fast enough that you can't possibly get anything more out of the pedals, and smacking a fire hydrant square on... making the forks meld with the frame and then getting the top bolt in the back of the head(when you just barely missed the sidewalk, laying face down in the grass)... well... it hurt like hell. 2.5" scar in the back of my head, easy to see when I clip my hair to a 1/4" long.

CRIPES Pat...
I felt that one just reading about it! My lil' brother once was coming down a rather steep hill, tried to hop onto a curb, which he did, but little did he know that his front tire off of the fork! Broke his arm reaaaaaal good!
So...this "terminator/energizer bunny" started at a VERY young age then? Cripes, you are STILL young...
God bless and take care

Back - way back - in the day... the bike to own around here was the PK Ripper. That was the ultimate 'cool'. Redline was nice, Haro, Mongoose... Check out this site: http://www.vintagebmx.com
I raced XC (mountain bikes) for 4 years and DH one year at the same time. A couple of small sponsorships could not cover the broken parts on the bikes, and I couldn't keep taking time off to let myself get repaired! Trees sneak up in a hurry when your pointing down the mountain! Was great fun though! Still enjoy getting out on the trails.
Glad to see your still in it, Raven. Get the hole shot on the young'uns!

Hey All, I didn't expect such a response to this thread. It is cool to know that I have some former BMXers here with me. I see mention of the Famous Square Tubing of the Redline. Yes, Redline is still around, along with GT, Mongoose, Diamondback, Haro, even Kuwahara is making a comeback, and Yes the SE "PK Ripper" made a comeback along with the "Quadangle" and "Floval Flyer" (Cruiser). If you look real close at the picture I posted, I'm racing a Bike called a "Pro-Concept", and ironically it has a Square Tubed rear-end. I agree, the little BMX bikes are evil at times. Been dumped on my Head Many, Many times. Yep, They'll Bite and Hurt You in a Hurry   :D .
DAYWALKER, If you look close at the pic, you'll notice the Old School Open Face Helmet and Mouth Guard, and cruising the Oakley yellow lensed glasses under the helmet too :D .
God Bless and Take Care All :)
