Hey lanyard folks,
How does 450 paracord stack up to 550, I know it is 4 strand instead of 7 and is not as strong, but is available in more colors. Is it strong enough, or is it not worth messing with? I'm guessing it is somewhere between 550 and the Wellington cord from W-M.

Its not bad cord but does not tie very well mixed with the 550.
It is penty strong enough for a lanyard.I think the 550 ties better and has a better weave.
With the strands removed and the cord flattened out the 450 is 1/8 in wide and the 550 is 3/16 in wide.

BTW that ubraidit cord is very soft and needs to be preshrunk before useing.

I haven't tried any 450 that I know of. I've tried many different types, and even have some 550 rated stuff that look almos identical to the rainbow Wellington. The only visible difference is the shad of blue used. When people talk of 550 I usually take it to mean they are talking about the stuff like the military uses, and I don't have anything like that in 450. REI carries some pretty cool looking 300, and while the supply is good, variations are limited.

The Military does use 450,at least I have some that came from Military surplus.
I belive all they use now is the 550 7 strand.

Agreed - I ordered a bunch of it from ubraidit. It does have to be pre-shrunk, but it does work well for lanyards. I guess it depends on final use. Up here, paracord of any sort is literally impossible to get and usually expensive. Ubraidit also has some pretty neat colors :D
