View Full Version : Next Spydie purchase? 204 vs SS Dragonfly

I have access to both of these for under $80. I can only buy 1 this time around and get paid on the 17th. I will be picking it up early that next week.

This gives a little over a week to figure it out.

The reason this is such a big question...

1> I have access to the 204 at my supplier. I'm in there enough buying that he doesn't charge to either sharpen for me or have me sharpen my own toys. He normally charges 2.50/blade

2> The Dragonfly will be a "dress" knife, not an EDC. I carry 3 spydies on my already and am running out of space for EDC...

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

Unless you do/need to do so much sharpening that it is really inconvenient for you to have to wait to go to your supplier's place, then I'd just maintain the status quo. You're continuing to be a good customer, and he's offering you a valuable perk. I'd keep using the perk, and smiling and bowing my gratitude to the supplier, and keep buying knives.

My $.02 worth.

VampyreWolf,

Since you already have the use of a 204 at your supplier (Cutting Edge, isn't it?) I'd use the money to add another knife to your collection. Don't worry, you'll find a spot in which to carry it; or to repace another in a daily rotation.

Think of it this way. Your suppier doesn't have an S/S Dragonfy that he'll let you use whenever you want, does he?

Besides, I want to get one too. I'd like you to go buy one first and rave about it to us, so as to help me get off my can and down to my suppier to plunk down the money for mine. So whattya' say?

I say buy the knife.

C'mon Jeff, just do it <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>. You know you're going to eventually anyway. The Military, Calypso Jr and Dragonfly are the triumvirate of flat ground Spydies. With all three, you will have a knife for every occasion. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

P.S. VW, you should get one also <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>.

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow, in Australia it's tomorrow already.

Thanks Clay, I needed that.

As I wrote elsewhere recently (different thread) I am most impressed that the s/s version of this knife gets the ATS-55 (vs AUS-6) in this model series. I really want the s/s version, and don't have to settle for AUS-6 to get it! Yipppeeeee!

Go with the dragonfly.
I recently bought the ss version of the dragonfly for a dress knife, and it works great. I especially like the flat ground blade...a rare occurance with the stainless handles.
Like always, it's a great knife. Of course, it's a spyderco.

My only problem down at Cutting Edge is I only get down there 1-2 times/week. When school starts up (one more yr of it, then FREEDOM!)in a month, I'll get a chance to be there daily again.

Had to go and handle the SS dragonfly again(about the 5th or 6th time now), and it carries well on the belt, hanging with the clip up(upside down). Puts the hole in the perfect spot on draw.

Dragonfly!! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

The SS Dragonfly is on my short list of knives to buy. With 3 EDC knives it will take awhile for all of them to be dull at the same time.

Buy the sharpener! You don't need another knife. Then you can sharpen your knives at home whenever you want.
