View Full Version : How durable is the coating on the Military?
Hi,
I'm planning to get a black bladed Military. How durable is this coating? Will it rub off under normal stress or pocket carry? Can anyone post some pics of his used black Military?
Thanks in advance,
Thomas

I had a different knife (Benchmade AFCK) w/ the black blade. Wore off quickly with use. I don't know if the coating is the same, but I don't want them anymore.

I know Jimmy Dean has a user one. He certainly will drop by...

That's my cue I guess :)
It is very, very durable. Truth be known, I haven't cut cardboard a whole lot with it because I feel it wears the edge and finish too much when I have a beater for that but otherwise, the Mili has been used for pretty much everything and the finish hasn't worn through or close to. It gets scratched, you can see some wear but it looks great. I wouldn't be worried, it has worked very well for me so far, and I think someone at Spyderco said it is currently the toughest coating on the market (DLC=diamond-like coating).
Cool side note, the blade is 100% anti-glare so it's very discrete at night, but the bug and spyderco name are written in silver metallique paint so if your blade catches light, all you'll see is the spyderco logo and a super sharp edge. Very nice! You'll love it
don't have a camera, sorry.
I'm sure someone else will post one
The coating is DLC by Ionbond.
the best we could find in our testing.
the "bug" is laser etched so the black is removed and the "silver" is the steel under the coating.
