I also read of Bill's passing on British Blades.

The following is posted on the ABS School of Bladesmithing Bulletin Board:

2/12/06 Bill Moran passed away this morning at 4:30 AM. The news came via email and we will post the funeral arrangements as soon as they are available.

Bill was considered the father of modern bladesmithing. His presence will be missed by all his knowlege and friendship touched.

My prayers for comfort for his family and all who knew him.

God speed and God bless, Bill.

Man cancer sucks, I hope he didn't suffer. My first Spydie fixed was his design. I guess God just wanted some new knife designs up there.

This is very sad news. Prayers sent for him and his family, friends, colleagues, etc..

Kinda makes one wonder why we, as humans, gather vast amounts of knowledge, and then pass on to the next life, taking that knowledge with us.
