2005 PT Cruiser GT Convertible. Midnight blue pearl with two tone tan leather interior. 2.4 litre Turbo engine and five on the floor. Have only had it about two months, got tired of being "sensible". It's my first convertible in forty years, and my first open car in almost thirty. :D

We are a 3-car family ! My wife has a 1991 Fiat Uno. I have a 1991 Toyota Conquest with nearly 400 000 km on the clock. I also have a 1998 Mercedes C200, which I bought for when I retire (which is NOW !). I tend to use the Toyota for the shorter trips, the Merc for long or classy ones !

Our main drive is a 2001 Chevy Impala, it has been a very good car! Our back-up(my work car) is a 1995 Dodge intrepid. The intrepid has been a decent car, but has had a lot on unanticaipated electrical problems :(

I drive a British Racing Green Rover 400. Rover went bust last year so the car is worthless, thats why I can drive it as the insurance cost for an 18 year old would be huge otherwise.

How much is car insurance for young people in the US and other countries?

I don't own a car yet (because I don't need to), but I drive with my parent's cars.
One is a Chrysler Grand Voyager from 1998 (I think, could be 1999, memory is deteriorating fast these days). Dark blue, turbo diesel, very decent family car. A bit thirsty for my tastes (9l/100km), but that could be worse. Something like this, without blinded windows:
http://www.tuonti.com/kuvat/autot/chrysler_grand_voyager_96.jpg

The other one is a two year old Toyota Yaris Verso. Also a diesel, metallic silver (or whatever it's called). It's got a little spoiler too! :D A very decent big small car. It may not look like an Aston Martin DB9 (wish it did), but I sure like. When the leasing contract is over in a few years, I want to buy it. Five-year old Toyota, well taken care of, and with no second-hand market value (because it's just plain ugly). Not bad to start off with

Type of car makes a lot of difference and the level of insurance. With my car i have over $10,000 in modifications so i have car car covered for a more expensive plan. When i was your age i had a Nissan 300zx and my insurance was $420 a month

I drive a 2000 Toyota Avalon. After 6 years and 109K miles, it is the best car I've ever owned. Other than routine (scheduled maintenance), it has only required some repair to the AC. It is a great car on the road, and I've even taken it through some wet off road with no problem. Nice and quiet on the highway and gets about 26 mpg higway and 23 in everyday driving.

Before the Avalon, I drove a 1970 Volvo 144S for 20 years and 250K miles. Drove it all over the country. Loved that car, though it did require quite a bit of upkeep.

I also drove an 86 Taurus (company car) for 8 years; it was OK, but I would not recommend it.

I'd love to see pics of your T-Bird. Here's one of my father's. He can't drive her anymore, so we take turns giving her "exercise". My brother's recently finished restoring her to her original factory color. That's a nice focus you have there. I have a friend that just finished swapping a SVT motor into his ZX3.

I have a 1996 Nissan 200SX SER. Hotshot gen 5 headers, hotshot intake, vrs 2.5" exhaust, g20 ECU (raise rev limiter and fuel cut), '92 intake cam, act clutch, 8 lbs flywheel, Prothane motor mounts, B&M SS, AGX adjustable dampers, Hyperco custom wound springs, falken azenis RT615's. Looking into getting a set of JWT s4 cams.

There is a guy in the nissan community that just finished a swap kit to put VQ35 (Maxima Motor) into a sentra! 3.5 liter V6. That may be my next project. :D

No i was looking at the 4.6 the 5.0 in that set is too heavy but can put out alot of power.

Yes i do track my car but not competitively because with the work i have done to my car the SCCA wants to stick me into a class to high for my car like against Ferrari, Porsche, Etc..

If you are wondering my 1/4 time i don't know and i don't really care to know because my tranny is geared for top end track use. So at lets say a pace of 60mph if i romp on the gas it will down shift and kick you to 100 before you know it. Good example of this is my friends own a STI, and a M3 bmw we had a little race awhile back at 50mph i was able to walk away form both of them but at standing start they lost me. Wide Gears make for high speeds.

No I was just curious, I've never tracked my car but I have an opertunity to take it to Pocono's Raceway in May. SERCA (SE-R Club of amerca) is hosting High Performance Driving Event and I'd love to go but I don't know if I'll have the money. It's almost 200 for the day. For that price I'll wait for Limerock (in Lakeville CT) to have a HPDE and I'll go up there for the day.

I know what you mean about the SCCA rules. If I was to auto-x at a competive level I'd be bumped up from stock class just because I put in a new cam (even though it's a stock spec cam, it's from a '92) That takes me out of the stock class. :(

BTW, Any reason for the auto transmission? Just personal preference?

Interesting insight into Spyderco people. I drive a 1997 Toyota Landcruiser which may be one of the greatest 4x4's ever built. This was the last year for their solid axle up front--which I value. The 1997 was the last year for a lot of features actually. The 4.5L engine has gobs of low end torque and that was it's last year. I plan to keep this car forever. Yes, it has a gross vehicle weight of over 6,000 lbs and gets 15 mpg, but in snow country it has no equal. Speaking of which, Spyderco shares a parking lot with Slee Offroad, one of the best known shops for offroad gear and improvements for Landcruisers in the U.S.

The reason for the auto tranny is medial reason. About 6 years ago i blew out my knife snowboarding so i cant push a clutch for more then 5min at competitive level. I get alot of flack untill people know the reasons behind it.

But i grew up with high speeds from the age of 4 i was in the pasanger seat of my dads cars when he would go track them on open track days or test and tune days. It's 700 kilos now... less weight and it will be flying !!

It has 1.1 liter now, but I've seen some with 1.4 R5 moters in it (they fit, with some modifications). There is one "in the works" with an R5 Alpine engine in it... I would be scared as hell to drive this above 150 km/h though. You really dont want "side winds" then. And knowing the power an Alpine motor can put out you SHOULD be able to reach 180-200 easily... *shudders*

More breaking-power is recommended though :D . As are extra seatbelts and maybe a "cage" of some sort. Airbags are out, no storage-space :p .

ive herd rumors of this aswell but i do not know for sure. It really woulnt be that hard for sumone to do it. All they would need is a pure black suit and a turbo Busa

As well as no brains, no fear, complete disregard for others' safety, etc.... :D
Isn't that what race tracks are for - or at least closed roads for rally stages!! :o

Maybe I'm getting too old, or have seen a couple too many bikes crash...

Cool thread!!! Its interesting to see what fellow forum members drive. We have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon(mine), a 2005 F250 Powerstroke King Ranch(hers), and a 2004 Z06(ours). Fortunately, the Z is fix'in to go bye bye, too much trouble!!! :D

Hi txtroublemaker,
Welcome aboard, enjoy the forums. Now when you say that the Z06 is too much trouble, would that be from a mechanical, or keeping your licence standpoint? ;) (For some reason I don't see a two year old 'vette giving you too many problems other than premature rear tire wear. :D )

Too many close calls with LEO's, thank God for radar detectors!!! It was just too easy to drive way too fast! Mechanically the car was awesome though, definitely no problems. I've always loved Corvettes and have been fortunate enough to own a few. I wasn't planning on getting rid of the car, but I had the right amount of money offered for it, so its going bye bye... The good news is, they're like spydies, they make them everyday so I'll be getting another one before the end of the year. :D

The Zo6 is one of the few Chevy's i like, that car is a beast. At the tracks i make the corvette club very upset that a little 4 banger is keeping up with there Z06 crew. There's a fellow in the crew that has a 04 z06 and he has twin turbo-ed it and has fully balanced the motor. His car is scary fast.
