Here's an entry from my Work Diary dated 8/12/04. Just thought I'd share this blast from the past:
-Monday and Tuesday there were inmates fighting on E-Block, weapons likely involved.
-Friday, 2 inmates in one cell on D-Block were found in possession of 5 shanks and 25 bottles of wine. Bottles used were plastic soda bottles and shampoo bottles.
-Yesterday (Wednesday), on Upper H-Block at 0730 , two inmates fighting, one went into the shower to retrieve a large shank, the other had a broom stick. CO's had to wrestle the shank away from the inmate.
-At 1100 hours, another fight between inmates occurred on Upper H-Block, large number of COs respond.
-On Sunday, a fight between inmates took place in the Main Yard.
-Yesterday (Wed.), I got a tip that a large number of shanks were out in C&D Yard, where construction is being done by staff and inmates. Three inmates were sharpening shanks instead of working, talking about selling them to other inmates. My source told me that the shanks were hidden under the benches in the yard.
I called Officer _______ on the Search Team, and he and Officer _____ searched the yard and found a dozen shanks under the benches, along with the materials to make about ten more shanks.
