I know it's not a Spyderco but I've lurked long enough on this forum before joining that I've come to value its opinion on a knife more than most other forums.

Anyone familiar with the new G10 S30 Kershaw Leek?
http://newgraham.com/detail.aspx?ID=5266

Or even the Kershaw Leeks in general?

I have to say I'm tempted as it looks relatively 'gentlemanly' for public carry of a 3" knife. Looks great in the online pics but how does it compare to the use of a Spyderco?

I'm a bit leary as I'd read such positive reviews of the Mini-Grip (Benchmade) that I made it a point to go look at one. I was tempted to carry it as my beater/abuse knife. In person I really wasn't very impressed. Quality of that one wasn't up there with the Spydies, IMHO.

Thoughts on the G10 S30 Leek though? Wait for the grippy G10 version? Avoid it altogether?

Note: I hope this doesn't violate a policy asking advice about a competitor. Mods, please feel free to delete this thread if so.

Hey Kn00b,
I got a blue and black Leek from my uncle as a graduation present and I love it :o . Not as much as my :spyder: 's, but for a non-spydie it's pretty good knife. Just be carefull of the spring assting opening I got the tip of the blade in my hand when I was closing it. Besides you can also change the clip from a tip up or tip down carrying which is always a plus in my book. One of the minus things about the clip on the leek. Is if you're left handed the clip is only changeable on one side of the knife for right handed people. On the plus side there's a sliding lock for the blade so you don't open the knife in your pocket.
You also might want to check out knifecenter.com (http://www.knifecenter.com) and knifesite.com (http://www.knifesite.com) for some cheaper pricing

I don't care for the handle on it, it is to small for me.

I have the S30V polished G-10 Leek, I'm a sucker for Ken Onion designs and I don't have $3k for a custom or $1500.00 for a mid-tech, add about two years wait If he's still taking orders.....I'll buy the Kershaw, it's a nice knife, not as nice, fit and finish wise as say the Kershaw Ricochet I own with polished G-10 and S60V steel. The Leek makes a nice little knife, but I use it only as I would use a slip joint, that is for light cutting only. It's thin, low weight, linerlock seems adequate. I wouldn't buy one of the regular Leeks, I ain't gonna plunk down money on 440A steel from any maker. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Rob

No AO's for me! Although, I do own a Scallion, Leek (both 440a) and SOG Flash II (AUS 8.) It's basically a switchblade, marked assisted opening. Too close for comfort in NY.
Like Rob said, too much for a 440a knife.
