Never bought a Spyderco, but my friends have recommended Spyderco

I am looking for a good knife for scuba diving, any suggestions?

I would take a look at the remote release and maybe the rescue along with a concealex sheath.

I would consider the Harpy or Merlin for scuba diving and around - water chores. The great shape of these blades prevent whatever you are cutting from slipping off of the edge.

Hi Ter79. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

I would suggest checking the steels. The lower carbon steels generally don't hold an edge as well as the exotic high carbon steels, but they resist corrosion better.

I would look into models with AUS-6, AUS-8, GIN-1. VG-10 has also proven to be very good in corrossion resistance despite the high carbon content.

I don't scuba dive, but I still can help you with your problem. In the current Blade magazine, there is an article which deals with knives used on the water.

The author makes a convincing case for the Remote Release/Snapit (don't remember which), as well as the Water Rat from Schrade.

However, most of these knives were reviewed as to usefullness in a rubber raft, hence the sheepsfoot/square tips. You will need to read the article, and use your experience to decide.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Hi ter79 and welcome to the forum!

As you know, most of the dive knives are fixed blades.

There are reasons for this:
1 Easy to wipe and clean
2 Sturdy design
3 Fast deployment
4 Good grip
5 A sheath (!!)

If I were to buy a dive knife, manufactured by Spyderco, I´d go with the Bill Moran Featherweight (fixed blade) for the reasons mentioned above.

BTW the knife features VG-10 steel, one of the "best" steels out there. Very good corrosion resistance!

You must choose a low carbon like 440a or equal this isn't a good steel but is very corrosion resistant personnally i like the schrade's water rat(which is actually named S.T.C.)the colors are:black, yellow and blue.Sorry but i don't know what steel is it but it will be a great dive knife (why do not make a red sheath and handle).
