Gotta remember this one, when talking about Internet to those not on. Two Malaysians with similar interests, "getting together" on a computer in Golden, CO. (Assuming Samo responds, of course.)

Wish I didn't have such a tendency to take such things for granted. My grandfather was a teen when the Wright bros took off from Kitty Hawk, and he lived to watch Neil Armstrong step onto the moon. And, they say with the ever-increasing speed of technoligical change/growth, that we will see far greater changes in our lifetime than he did. Not so sure about that sometimes.

Thanks for this "place", Sal.

Howdy hy! Welcome home and to the forums!
You can check out the Spydies at Eddy Ng's toolshop (03-7540409) which is located at the second floor of Jaya Supermart in Section 14, Petaling Jaya or at Bob Chang's tackle shop (03-7372682) in Bandar Sunway. These are the few shops which are well-stocked and knowledgeable about their stuff. Are you from Kuala Lumpur? Well, for starters -- selection is rather limited to a small number of Spyderco blades. You can always place an order with Eddy who is quite and obliging dude!

Thanks for the welcome guys. Samo, i live in Subang and might check out the shop in bandar Sunway. Could you give me an idea of the range thay have, the prices and other brands that are available? Thanks for your help!

hy ~ Bob Chang's tackle shop is located opposite the Sunway Pyramid. Its called "Tight Lines". You can't miss this one because its the only tackle shop in the neighbourhood. Speaking about range, there are a couple of Spydies there like the Endura, Delica, Dragonfly and few custom-collaborated pieces. Price ranges from RM200-RM600, which is pretty pricey.. They also stock Cold Steel and Timberline. Hope this helps..

wow...that's pricey indeed......it might be cheaper for me to order them from knifecenter......but i'll just go to both places and take a look anyway.....do these places sell white lightning and tuff glide as well.....thanks for all your help samo.

Dude ~ The pricing sucks! I agree... You can get a better deal at Bayou Lafourche. These shops don't deal with lubes and knifecare accessories but you can find white lightning at a bicycle shop in Tmn Tun...

Samo, i think i know the bicycle shop you're talking about......it's the one near the ibm building and pizza hut......i usually use wd-40 myself anyway......a little messy but it's cheap and convenient.......planning to get a tri angle sharpmaker....hope one of the 2 places you mentioned sell them......just out of curiosity, what knives do you own.....it's really difficult to find people in malaysia who even know what spyderco is.......such a big differrence from OZ and the US.

ditto dude!
Well speaking about awareness, there aren't that many knifenuts here in Malaysia.. But there are some who use and collects Spyderco knives. Infact, the knives started to show up on the shelves here in the mid-90s. Kinda slow actually. But I have a friend who traded an early model Endura with plastic clip for two large blades with me. It was sent to him via mail from the States.. Personally, I love the Endura and have grown to like the Military very much... These are excellent choices! Oh yeah, if you want to pick up a 204, its being sold at Eddy's for RM270. Very expensive!

oops....sorry about the repeat postings...dont know what happened there...do you know if i can carry something like a calypso jr in my pocket when going through a metal detectorat the airport?

sam the man..
08-22-2001, 09:58 PM
Dude ~
Malaysia's penal code is similar to the UK. Blades which are less than 3" are legal carry, but that depends to the discression of our LEO's. Carrying it in your knapsack or bumbag will clear you of any problems.. Concealed carry is a no-no and if you are caught, the blade will be confisticated without any conditions. So, if you check in at the airport, pack you spydie in your luggage. Believe me, this helps...

Hi Ramlan...
I haven't been to tight lines of late, so its hard to say if there's anything new. Saw a Stainless Steel Harpy at Eddy's shop and a G-10 Rookie (PE), while the rest are pretty much the same..

Samo, i'm currently in Australia again and am planning on picking up a ss rookie for RM 260, native for rm 260 and a military for rm 480 before i head home. Is that expensive by malaysian standards? The vesuvius, chinook and viele look very inviting as well.......someday.....

Spyderco Club? Ummmm... Sounds like a good idea! Maybe we should meet up and post some pictures in this forum...
Engravers? Try those locksmith shops in big malls. You may get a good one there...

Ummm.. Here comes the hairy part! Knives are subjected to duty and sales tax... That's 25%+10% I normally bring em in without much hassles.. But if you are about to purchase via mail order, anything over USD 50 will be detained and subjected to taxation...

Samo, just out of curiosity, where do you usually buy your spydercos from? Do you get them from Tight Lines and the ss14 shop or order them from places like bayou lafourche? And do you go to Singaopre to get them as well? I'm currently in Australia at the moment but a friend in KL who's also interested in Spydies wants to get a few....thanks.

Hey guys!
Don't know if you're still following this thread but I just picked up my Spyderco Chinook from Eddys today. If you're ever going to be around the Bangsar area on a Sunday or Monday let me know. We can get together and talk knives. One of the other Chiropractors here in town used to be a custom knife maker. He suggested Cold Steel (and they are sweet) but I couldn't resist my Chin-y. It just felt so good in the hand and open easier too. Important in a real situation.

Drbones....nice to meet another malaysian knife nut........congrats on the chinook....it's my favourite spyderco and i have a 2 myself (i numbered). How much did you get it for and did you have to specially order it or did Eddie have it sitting in his shop?BTW, i've only been to tight lines so far and wanted to know which of the 2 has better prices. Thanks.
