I just picked this peice up the other day and I must say I'm impressed, but I have a question. While sharpening my native 1/2 I noticed that the 30 degree setting matched the factory bevel better than the 40... does it make that much of a difference which one I use?

I was told once by Customer Service that the knives are factory sharpened at a 30 degree included angle (15 per side). They also recommended sharpening it with a 40 degree included angle as the edge is more durable.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

I tend to think the Native's blade is strong enough to go with the 30 degree bevel. It sure cuts better.

If you have the 204 Tri-Sharpmaker, why not leave the edge at 30 deg as it will be easy to occasionally sharpen the blade. Then, if you think you are having to sharpen too often, change the angle to 40 deg.

db,

I think the factory edge is 30 degrees (,or a little more,) so you can easily sharpen it to 40 degrees. It is "back-beveled".
