Aloha ALL,
I am on stand by right now awaiting a call in the event there is a full on facility riot as well as a barage of drive by shootings...rewind...
An inmate tried to escape today while coming back from a court run. Now, we have one gung ho stupid @$$ CO who thinks he's all that and more. Always thinks he's right, always a warden select, always an idiot! Anyway, as the inmate is running in a very, VERY busy part of town, he takes a shot and hits the inmate in the head. Last I heard the inmate is now in critical condition. There were nine other inmates in the van who could have easily overtook the CO left alone in the van. Fast forward...
Now I am on alert status in the event there is a full scale riot. This inmates family is a large one and they may start picking CO's randomly after this...to get even..."an eye for an eye"...damn it. Because of this CO's sheer stupidity, we could have a hostage situation or worse with the "expected drive by shootings". Drive bys have happened before...
ALL for this CO's dumb @$$edness, he has placed the whole facility in jeapordy. Retaliation will happen in one form or another...stupid.
So please, I am getting my gear ready, just in case...hah, "gear"...also, I am prepping my home defense "stuff" in the forms of 357, 9mm, and 12 gauge. Like I said, this inmate's family is a huge one..lot of them always high on crystal meth...so they *may* do a random trip on any CO they see.
Damn it.
Thanks everyone, and sorry for my tones here...but to go in for someone else's blatant stupidity, possibley getting severely injured, held hostage, or killed is something I do not want to do...
God bless and thanks for listening...gotta go.

Aloha ALL,
Suited up, got the scoops, called my LT and he said, "Thank you Chad, but no need..." However, this is not the end this incident. The inmate who is now confirmed dead, has a family which is active in the local syndicate here. Great. I talked with a lot of staff not too long ago, and they're all kinda worried and pissed about this whole thing. It was also heard at the hospital by the sheriff's that the family of the inmate stated, "We will get any CO." Cripes...
The CO who shot the inmate in the head is still at the main unit, being questioned. Sheriff's have given back up CO's bullet proof vests. I am still wondering why the hell our staff are outside the unit?
I called every unit to check on the vibes, and they all said this appears to be the quite before the damn storm. Weird...I recently wrote that I am never off duty...how fitting.
I cannot believe this CO... He just tore us a new one...
Anyway, this is far from over...so I appreciate your prayers. God bless and thanks all...I gotta make a few more calls just to be sure that 1st Watch is all good...
Thank you all.

What a truly horrible situation, Chad, hoping you and your staff (and the LE community) stays safe, it's not fair that you're going to have to keep a constant eye out for troublemakers now....
it's interesting, really, i never really thought through the possible reprocussions of my personal philosopy of "criminals have no rights", looks like this may not be a good philosopy after all....
i figured since commiting a crime is a *voluntary* decision, criminals should have no rights , after all, if they didn't make the decision to commit a crime, they wouldn't end up incarcerated.....
watch your six and keep safe, prayers sent...

Hey guys,
Mahalo for all your thoughts and prayers. As TKC said, "Prayer is powerful!"
Now the waiting game. I am still on standby, I got my uni all ready to go...cripes what a situation.
This CO who made the "bad call" thought he'd get accolades and be the "hero" for downing an inmate. A headshot no less...how he managed that one I don't know, as during firearms qualification, he failed about five times. Of all times to hit the target. I was thinking of the location in which the inmate was shot, and I tell you, that part of town is SO busy at the time he fired off that round. Lots of school kids walking around, not to mention passing traffic. This CO was a brown noser who only thought of himself all of the time. Had this inmate succeeded in getting away, it'd have been escape #4 on this CO. Cripes...
We are permitted by policy to shoot to "stop"...however, common sense should say otherwise when firing in an area filled with civilians and passing cars. Common sense dictates that you contact base unit of the escape, have them notify PD, make sure you do not abandon your partner and make sure the other inmates in the van stay put! Now, let's just see if this was worth it for him...if he gets incarcerated for this shooting, he will be in PC forever. So much for friggin' "being the hero"...
I am more concerned in that CO's NOT involved with this incident may get hurt, worse yet, their families may get hurt...Hopefully, the facility is taking precautionary action, and doing a lot of "what if" thinking...pfffttttt...yeah, right. Damn. Last night was a great example of admin thinking: "Call in guys pre-shift, or off duty. Have them standby outside the facility. No, do not issue weapons as everyone's qualification cards have expired. There may be drive by shootings, so uh...just have them standby outside."
Anyway, thanks for allowing me to..."express" myself...and thanks for everything else guys...I SO wanna kick this CO's ***!!!
God bless and be safe everyone.
Chad, prayers sent for you and your brother officers' safety. May you all stay safe.
As for the @$$hole officer, I have a feeling that, even if he's allowed to stay at your institution, he'll be taken care of through the natural order of things. He made a bad call by taking that shot in the crowd. He could very well have hit a friendly.
Bro', I know how you're feeling right now, from experience. Hang in there and PM or email me if you want.

Chad, I'm just checking in, and reinforcing my support and prayers for you.
How ironic that, as you guys are having trouble because of a retarded staff member's action, so is my prison. Well, not big problems yet, but a select group of inmates is up in arms right now, very pissed. Amazing how the thoughtless actions of one person can affect/afflict the masses.
Sounds like you guys are having much more intense problems that we are at this time, though. I hope you come through it okay with no one being injured further.
Stay vigilant, strong, prayerful, and bad-ass. Remember, even Jesus physically kicked some butt with the money changers inside the temple on that occasion. Sometimes we have to do the same.

Aloha ALL,
Mahalo much guys, for your thoughts and prayers.
On the local news they showed where the shooting occured, the direction in which "DACO" (Dumb A** CO) shot, and a whole mess of witnesses. Cripes, DACO shot in a direction where school kids are usually walking, towards a gas station, and "level" with vehicles crossing said intersection! Also In the local paper, there were some very tasteless pics of the inmate down on the ground, DACO standing by...they catually showed said inmate's body on the ground! I think Pat was right about this sudden OD of stoopid pills...I mean, bad enough said inmate's family/friends gotta deal with his death, but the media "adds to it" by putting a damn picture of him dead on the ground?!! I am wondering now how many inmates are gonna use this picture to justify rioting or hostage taking.
Said inmate ran to tell his pregnant girlfriend that he was gonna do some time, and because he was worried about her being pregnant and all. He was NOT a high threat inmate, simply a parol violator. Cripes...
DACO is a warden select CO in the department of, get this, Policy and Procedure!?! Yet, he discharges his weapon endangering innocent civilians. True, we are to protect the public from inmates in our care, custody, and control...however, DACO made a very bad call. PD is trying to determine State incrimination upon him for trying to be "Robocop". What an A**...he is doomed. Sad in that I know there are other CO's with the same D***A** mentality like DACO, going over to his house right now praising his actions, and saying, "they'd have done the same and that his actions were justified." PffffTtttTtttt, yeah, right. I really friggin' hate these wanna be SWAT guys...they are constantly jeapordizing us within the units, "starting fires they cannot put out."
Last night, an inmate tried starting a riot...the day of the shooting, some CO's who lived near the dead inmate's family never went home...they slept in their vehicles on facility grounds.
Thanks for listening everyone. Yes, I have a great relationship with Jesus, and I ask His forgiveness during this time as I am thinking what I can do about it, I am worrying about it, sometimes it honestly scares me...what kind of display of Faith is that, eh? :( Cripes...
God bless you all, and do be safe. Thanks again.

Again, mahalo everyone...
Yeah Scott, underaged is correct...DACO is on Admin. Leave w/pay until further. Unreal. If I were to give a fellow officer a threatening look, gesture, or words, I'd be suspended 30days w/o pay!?! Although, I know SOME CO's have gotten away with worse...so yes, Scott...DACO is one of the "faves"...Admin loves you if you come with strings.
I drove by the place where the shooting occured...I still cannot believe he pulled the trigger there! Also, I just found out that the inmate who was shot is the nephew of two of our officers, a "normal floor soldier" and one of our LT.'s... :( Cripes, even the postman "heard" that said inmate's family had ties with the syndicate...sheesh.
Well, I been doing way too much "what if thinking" since this incident. I gotta let the anger go. Easier said than done, but being angry about it ain't gonna do any good. Being aware, however, will. At this moment, I prefer to be aware instead of pissed. Therefore, I have given this incident and all that may come with it to God...He is my "protection"...He is my "vest"...He is my "riot gear"...i had prayed about it, but my downfall was that I been dwelling on it. Can't move forward if I keep looking backwards.
Later today, Hell will indicate what is going on within the walls...hopefully an inmate will have news of what is going on outside the walls also. I just pray no innocent people get hurt because of DACO... Anyway, enough already...
My heartfelt thanks to all of you...sorry for the drama on my part. :o

The vibes in Hell have been "weird"...I dunno...some inmates say it was the inmate's fault for running, a lot of inmates disagree with the shot to the head at 20ft. What, no foot pursuit?
20ft...cripes.
People have been driving by the facility and when they see one of us, shouts of, "One for one!!!" can be heard or, "Shoot to kill!!!"...sheesh. I heard that our facilities on Oahu had to lockdown all units the day of the shooting due to the gangs chanting, "One for one!"...

Edited to add: Just read through the archive of their local paper from the 19th to yesterday, no reports of any incidents at the prison, or otherwise related to the shooting, so I think we thankfully can rule that possibility out.

I got a reply from him on Saturday to a message I sent to him on Thursday of last week. I think Deacon is probably right. He normally chimes in more often than this>> unless he is on those 16 hour days again :(

So I'm not the only one who did that ;)

I can't be sure, but at sunset I thought I saw someone about Daywalker's height marching up a mountain, mumbling something about hunting rabbits with his, "spweer and magic hewmut". But as I said, the light was dimming...

What time is it where he is? Almost 10PM? Who wants to call him and wake him up?
You get his number? I'll call, It's only about 10:00pm right now. I haven't heard of any other incident. No news in my news paper or the Big Islands....

Guys, I believe he is ok. Got no reply from his wife, so I would think their computer is making problems.
I love that we act like a family, its great :)

That's a good thing, because looking up phone numbers online is a very tedious task...

Aloha ALL,
Cripes! Mahalo much for your concerns...however, I wish I had a "spweer an' magic hewmet" zen'. I been "marching" our perimeter at one of our units since friday, as the inmate's funeral was this weekend. Appears that no one wanted to come to work due to possible retaliation by either this inmate's family OR from the member's of a gang he was in. Honestly, I do not blame anyone for not coming to work, it was pretty freaky. Had I been issued our AR15 or Rem870, I'd have felt "better"...heck, I'd have settled for the "spear and magic helmet"...
Weird also in that about 2/3 of the facility think DACO is in the right for what he did...odd. However, what's done is done in terms of the shooting, but we are waiting for the retaliation to happen in some way or another...of course, they will not put *that* in the local paper. Until it happens, that is.
Also, in a few months, I will be working in a unit where there has been drugs smuggled in, along with syringes. Cripes...ordered a pair of gloves that protect from blood borne pathogens as well as having some cut resistance. Also looking into some kinda "vest" of sorts...at this unit, during a fight, one guy got bit on the chest. If it ain't one thing, it's another...
Anyway, I got some major catching up to do. I am pretty much caught up on my rest, and I think I did a great job of mimicking vampyrewolf's amount of sleep since friday. I dunno how the heck he does it...
Mahalo for your concerns everyone. I am blessed to be a part of this family. God bless, and be safe
Thank you.

Glad to hear you're ok, was beginning to worry, although mostly about the health of your PC, 'cause I always figure your "special armor" will protect you.

Welcome back, Chad. It's DAMN good to see you checking back in and that all is well!!! I hope you get a few days off for a few days of no sleep. You've earned it!
One can only assume that someone takes the bullets out of Barney Fife's (DACO's) gun next time, that is, if there ever IS a next time...
