I'm 17, been using knives since I was 5.

Got my first knife from my grandfather, as he believed a man's gotta have/know how to use a knife.

I had about 3-4 since then till I found spyderco. I went on a 3week camp with cadets, recieving $180($60/week). I had $100 by the time I got home, and was determined to buy a good knife. I got the Delica, still EDC, back in August '99.

Since then I've bought 4 more, with 1 on order. I've dropped an order for a Calypso Jr lightweight with Cutting Edge(gives me 1-2 months to get cash built up).

-Plain Edge Delica, aug 99
-Ladybug, feb 01
-Serrated Cricket, tufram, mar 01
-40/60 Wegner jr, june 01
-Plain edge Dragonfly, SS, aug 01
(plain edge calypso jr lt, oct/nov 01)

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

VampyreWolf.....You're grandpa was right. Every boy should own a pocket knife and learn
how to use it. It breaks my heart that the zero tolorance policy of most schools make it impossable
for boys growing up to have the fun I did by carrying / using a pocket knife everyday. I'm 55 and
each one of my 4 sons got a pocketknife for their 10th birthday. As a result they now know how &
why to use it. Two now carry spydrco as do I. We know what a good quality knife they are. The
other two still carry the knife I gave them at 10.

I'm 27. I've had knives ever since I was about 6 or 7. Got my first lockback at around 11 yrs old. I still have it...it was Buck knock-off hunting knife (brand was Sharp). First serrated blade was a Schrade (POS), and I just recently got my first Spydie. Before that my EDC was a Victornix Swiss Army Knife.

Darn it Chinook, I thought I was about the oldest here but I won't be 57 until October.

I've carried a pocket knife since I was a kid in the Scouts. However they've been SAK's until I discovered the internet and Spyderco. My eldest daughter got her first knife for her eighth birthday, a Wegner SAK with a locking blade. My second daughter will get one next birthday and my baby boy already has a Dragonfly . I hope they will grow up appreciating knives as tools and knowing how to use them safely. Actually they already love knives, whenever I get a new one there's an argument about which one of them is going to inherit it .

I will be 40 next month.

First knife was either a Boy Scout Knife (don't know the manufacturer) or a Camillus Trapper with yellow delrin scales.

Got my first Spyderco in 1999. It was a Michael Walker Lightweight. Then I lost it and replaced it with a Walker Almite.

My current holding is 14 Spyderco knives, but another 6 or 7 have passed through my hands.

Dav- So, by my reckoning, you would be 21 then? I've been carrying knives for a long time, ever since Cub Scouts, and can't imagine walking out of the house without one.

Scolby-unless that Scout knife is considerably older than you are, it's definitely a Camillus product. The only exception is the odd SAK/Scout knife, which have only been made since about '93. Post a description of it, especially the emblems and stamping, and I can tell you exactly how old it is.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

I'll be 23 this November. I got my first knife at age 10(a SAK Tinker). Moved on to Leatherman, then finally saw the light in 1993 when I saw a guy in Australia using this funny looking knife. Finally bought one in 1996 for a trip to Europe I was taking. The only reason I waited until '96 was because my parents felt that my Leatherman was sufficent, which I couldn't really argue with because I wasn't old enough to buy one myself.

I had my first knife way before then (also got one from my grandpa - they are useful folks, aren't they ), but I really got into it after I got an air SOG in 97. In terms of spydies, I own Tim Wegner jr, Native Lightweight, Dragonfly Lightweight, and a Rookie. I'm 38. Got my first daily carry knife, a Case slip joint, when I was about 11. My first "tactical" folder was at age 13 - a Gerber FSII equipped with a Flicket attachment for one-handed opening. That got me hooked on one-handed knives, making a love affair with Spyderco knives an inevitable event. I've never been the same since, nor have I ever been happier.

Too bad this is not a contest, with a Spyderco item as a prize, for the oldest Spyderco fan on this forum. I am 65, that's even older than Sal! Knives have always been an interest to me since I was old enough to hunt & fish (around 9 years old, I think). My first favorite was a small fixed blade Trout & Bird Knife by Western. Throughout the years knives have held an interest for me. The major brands that I have purchased and used include: Victorinox Swiss Army Knives, Buck, Gerber, Remmington , and Case. Mostly all are folders with a few Military and Survival as fixed blades. I discovered Spyderco thru a closeout sale in a SMKW catalog. I was impressed with the quality and started to learn more about the company and their products. Purchased the "Spyderco Story" book and liked the business policy and found out about all the models manufactured. I decided I would purchase Spyderco exclusively until I had most of the models that are readily available. Signed up for the Spyderco Collectors Club more than a year ago. I use my knives and vary my daily carry to give my knives a chance to perform and me to utilize the different models for my cutting needs.

Hi! My name is Gatekeeper. I've been addicted to sharp things since I was about 8 years old. I am 31 now and I deny having any sort of problem. Are you with me? Too many production knives over the years to keep track of. They have been mainly C.R.K.T., Benchmade, and Buck brands. Nearly 3 weeks ago, I bought my 1st Spydie (FRN Delica ATS-55 50/50). I'm absolutely ashamed that it took me this long to own a Spyderco product. There is only one problem. I've yet to decide which one to get next. Choice is the basis for all indecision.

47. Seems like this easily puts me in the upper quartile.

My first knife was a mother-of-pearl handled, two-blade, no-name folder that I received for Christmas when I was about 8. My father also made a set of Arkansaas stones available, which I used until the long blade was practically worn down to a needle.

I am 31, a girl (any more girls out there?) and I started collecting shiny pointy things since I was very, very young. My dad got me into it, he is a Samurai weapon expert (not me!) and loves knives, so it's in the genes.

I currently have most of my collection back in my native country, but I do carry a Wenger knife, a Buck knife, a Leatherman multitool, and a Spydie most of the time in case I need one or the other. Other less utilitarian knives I left back at my parents' house until I actually settle down in a place of my own.

BTW, next year I may move to Toronto, if you know of any good knife stores (not Internet), please let me know. I will be traveling there this year to check out the area and apartments, and I would also love to get familiarized with retailers for my favorite hobby, knife collecting.

I'm Joe and I turned 62 this last summer. Been carrying a pocket knife since I was 9 years old. I have around 17 Spyderco's, around 375 Swiss Army knives (Vics) and heavens knows what else. Sitting here with three knives on my belt or in my pockets.

Hope to visit SFO in May when I go out for my youngest sister daughter's graduation in Colorado Springs.

Much as I like the Spyderco products, my longest EDC knife is the Victorinox Hiuntsman - now have #3 of that on my belt having worn out the previous two.

Cheers - Joe

33 pretty good years so far. I got my first Spyderco, a Delica FRN in 1996.Since then I have bought, sold and traded around 20 Spydies and at least that many other brands in my quest to find the perfect knife. About three months ago I came to the conclusion I could keep knives as opposed to getting rid of them to make room for new ones, thereby starting my "collection". Since that decision, I have picked up and kept 6 Spydies and am saving for my next one. First knife I remember was in grade 1 and it was a little two blade knife with Niagara Falls on the scales. That was taken away as soon as I got home from school one day when Mom found out from a friend's mom I had taken it to school and was cutting worms up at recess. Ahhhh....those were the days....

I'm seventeen next week, and like most of you, Scouting has heavily influenced my knife collecting, as well as my proficiancy and safety with the knives I use in the mountains and every day. I can't remember my first knife, but it was probably of the Swiss Army variety. My first :spyder: was a CE FRN Endura. Besides that, I'd just like to say that I'm glad to see so many younger knife collecters in the forum, as I think that people my age should know safe and responsible use of a knife as a tool.

Been carrying a knife off and on since I was around nine years old. Mostly SAK’s or Leatherman’s. Four years ago I bought a one-hander to carry every day and discovered how much I’d use it. The quest began and I started Spyderco ten months ago. Don’t know how many I have now. The quest for the perfect one seems endless.

I'm 40!!!

Into knives from about the age of 7 or 8

Used to carry a SAK til 1995 than I bought my first serious knives. They were a couple of SOG winders (I and II). The little SOG winder was my EDC for almost 10 years... ..... til I discovered Spyderco this year :)

Now the majority of my knives are :spyder: s

I am 2 weeks short of 44.
Always liked knives but I know now that I never had a real knife apart from a SAK until about 2 years ago. I believe I made up for it since.

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow, in Australia it's tomorrow already.

......if you want to be the oldest you can have as many of my 47 years as you like to add to your own! :) :)

Cheers, Ken

63 next month. Can't remember when I didn't carry a knife. We all had a pocket knife in grade school, and you could take them to grade school in those days.

Saw my first Spydie in a magazine advertisement in the late 80's. It was a Co-Pilot and I carried it on the job IWB weak side until I retired. Still have it - along with 25 others. :D

My body is 40 years old, but i never grew past the age of 14.
Probably the reason why i now have about 30 Spyderco models, about 40 models of other brands, i like to tinker with them, sharpen them, and in general like to talk about them.
I also make a living selling knives on the internet, for me this is like getting paid for my hobby, it doesn't get any better than this, :D
Only problem with this job is that so many fine knives go through my hands and i keep finding it difficult to let them all go......
I also like this forum very much, it seems the only place where people like me can vent their thoughts without being seen as the village idiot. :p

58.....rekindled a lot of great memories as a kid. Saved my paper route money and convinced my Mom to let me buy a leather sheathed fixed blade when I was about 10. Many pocket knives over the years then kind of forgot about knives in general except kitchen knives. For the last 25 years, we have had the sharpest kitchen knives imagineable (contrary to most folks kitchen knives).

Discovered Spyderco a year ago and have:

Caly Jr ZDP (3)
Viele 2
Persian (2)
Mini Persian
KOPA in Micarta
and a Delica ZDP on Pre Order

Throw in a half dozen Benchmades, another half dozen Kershaws and a KaBar Dozier. Then of course there are a couple of Bucks.

Thank God there are no knife stores in Cinci or I would have a lot more. Kind of an obsessive type of person.

I'm 39 now ( time flies when you're having fun  :D ).

I got my first real knife form my grandpa when I was about 10 years old. It was a Herder slipjoint.

I've carried only a SAK for years until last year November when I discovered Spyderco. Haven't carried anything else since. I have about 35 Spydies now.

sypdutch,

So, you've 35 sypdies in only a year. Now, I'm really impressed with you. I've picked up only 10 in the past year. Keep it going and you've given me something to shoot for.

By the way, I'm in my early 40s.
