i was just messing around with it a bit like i have done in the past and spun it around a couple times almost cut myself and like a moron didn't stop. i ended up sticking the tip right into my thumb. good thing i wasn't spinning it with any kind of speed or force or i could have cut my damn thumb off.

Thats one I haven't been bit with yet. I do however show it quite a bit more "respect" than my other Spydies. That is not to say I don't show respect to the others having a Civilian cut you to the bone will garner some respect!

As a fan of all things hawkbilled, I LOVE karambits in general, though I have yet to find one that suits me 100%. They are generally VERY easy to get cut with.
By the way, unless you have excellent hospitalization insurance I suggest that you NOT zip-tie the Spyderhole on your Spyderco Warren Thomas Karambit for that Emerson "waved" opening. :D
Please - trust me on this one. :o

You must respect the sharpened piece of steel :p
Karambits are bloodthirsty little knives. I avoid them like the plague, because I can cut myself on air, I don't need any help
I'll have to second Doctor Lecter's recommendation on NOT waving a Karambit, unless you have strong desire to see exactly what your femur looks like, close up

I have a small scar on the inside of my wrist from the Spyderco Karambit... Bled like carzy and hurt like you know what!
I was flipping it, and bent my wrist by accident... Stuck straight in my wrist, missing a vein by 1/2 inch!

Yeah that little beast has quite an appetite for flesh. Use caution! Get a trainer! I am glad you are not seriously injured. I know the impulse to spin it is just too great to resist. I am guilty of it.

I would be willing to bet that after Karambits got popular there was an increase in lacerations. People just got to give them a whirl and then "Ooops."
Of course I payed my dues with Butterfly Knives.

The kerambit is yet to bite me. The only reason this is that when it first arrived I took it out of the box and opened it. It looked at me, licked its hawkbill chops and mumbled something that sounded like,"mmmm fresh meat". I hastily put it back in its box and stored it down on the bottom shelf of the safe...far far in the back. :p

why not zip-tie the karambit?
I tried very successfully to put it in my back pocket and get it out in the normal - ie reverse - grip for a karambit. I don't know about the front pocket and forward grip if you meant that...

zip-tie, like i have here on my Dodo, works as a sorta "cheap" emerson wave.

i did actually try the zip-tie wave on my Karamabit and guess what? worked great with zero risk of harm, at least the way i was doing it. i didn't leave it on though, ended up cutting it off.

My Kerambit arrives soon, I'm going to have to zip-tie it now to see what all the fuss is about... :D

thank you dedguy!!! I've been thinking of ways to make my knives
waves as well...
one day I just walked into LOWES and spent a couple of hours just looking
at the various nuts and bolts and other supplies they have.
haven't come up with anything that makes me say Eureka yet.

I can personally attest to the bloodthirst of the Karambit! Or, more accurately my own urge to play and twirl with it, despite warning from fellow forumites! ;)
The cut wasn't too serious though. :D
