Quick question for civilian owners...

followup on that stainless thread...

how many of you are law enforcement personnel (undercover or not) and use a civilian for its real purpose?, how many carry in EDC for self defence?, and how many put it in a draw and only get it out to look at or show somone? finally does neone have the CF civilian (PE) with 450 or 452 on the blade? (just outta interest<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>)

I carry a CF Serrated Civie in my boot everyday at work, have never had to use it but I take great comfort in having it with me all the time. I work in a very, very bad neighborhood.

I meant to say a G-10 Serrated Civie, still waiting on my CF Serrated. Sorry, for the typo, musta been the anticipation of replacing the G-10 with the CF.

I,ve carried a plain edge civilian for self defense purposes for about 5 years.Every time I think I have found a replacement for it, I find myself going back to carrying it instead.It is an excellent design that allows for some unique uses in trained hands when compared to a straight blade.Thankfully I have never had to use it yet.

Mine stays in the drawer in it's pouch. It has scared some friends that got to look at it. I am thankful I don't have a job that requires protection in the form of a backup weapon, thanks to all LEO&quot;s.

While I generally buy knives as functional tools, I just had to have this weapon in my collection.

There is no question that, the Civilian has only one purpose in its design - Slicing and Dicing. I do not want to face a jury of good and honest people and say I wasn't looking for trouble from the git go.

If you use the Civilian for any other purpose, that voids the Spyderco warranty.

One way or the other, you pay for your tools!

I carry mine daily ,AND use it CAREFULLY for a variety of uses - opening boxes (esp cutting the nylon strapping) Only problem I have had is slicing myself as well as what I was cutting !Hope never to need it for defence but it is good to know it is there if needed ! Have just recently got a G10 one so now carry 2 .

i thought using it for utility purposes was not meant for it and if it breaks you are screwed...i saw the tag conencted to it on ebay i dont own one and never will unless i become rich and can spend 200 on a knife...i will be happy with a native and a spyder card when i get the money to buy them...

This is the only knife in my collection that is never used (except for theraputic opening and closeing <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> ). Mainly because I could never hope to argue self defence if I was caught in public with it, and partly because I wouldn't dream of abusing it for utility use.

IMHO this is the most beutiful knife in the spyderco collection and is more akin to a work of art.

I have heard of a number of of people that have broken the tips of their civilians , but in nearly all cases some twisting was involved ,as long as the blade is not twisted or used as a pry-bar it seems pretty strong Hence my saying CAREFULLY !
