That's an interesting subject there, Caleb.
But people have been telling me the Harpy isn't really ment for Self Defense. Well, you must've known that allready. But do you think in that case, there would've been a book written about it?
We'll see. That could be fun!

Hi Caleb.
James Keating as a video on his site (www.combattech.com) which is dedicated to self defence with the Civilian, although I understand that the video draws similarities with the Harpy.
In case you are not familar with ganeral self defence training I would recommend any Martial Arts class even if it is an un armed style.

Caleb,
You would probably get more answers to this question if you post it on the MBC Forum. Lots of very knowledgable blokes hanging about over there .

Dear Caleb:
James Keating's video on the Civilian would probably be your best bet for design-specific materials. You can find him at www.combattech.com.
Any basic knife self-defense system that emphasizes cutting rather than thrusting would also work.
Another possibility would be a new video series from Unique Publications on the Kerambit (a fixed-blade Indonesian design very similar to an open Harpy). This 3-tape series features Steve Tarani, a talented blade player and one of the few open sources of kerambit info. You can find it in current Inside Kung Fu magazine ads or (probably) on their web site, www.cfwenterprises.com (it shuld be there, cut I haven't checked).
By the way, the kerambit is unique in that it includes an integral ring at the butt end of the knife that facilitates quick grip changes and some interesting twirling techniques. These of course wouldn't work with a Harpy unless it was equipped with a similar feature. Anyone interested in a folding kerambit????
Stay safe,

May I suggest that you seek a training partner, as well as participating in a Martial Art or reading relevant books. A critical training partner can help you a great deal, when 'trying stuff out'. Your training would benefit greatly from getting the Delica drone as well. Yes, it's a different blade shape, but no by much. Other dimensions should be very similar. Besides, the drone allows you to elevate the reality in your training immensely.
It's better than cutting air and cardboard.
