View Full Version : Missing from Spyderco's Lineup

I want a dedicated :spyder: neck knife. Most of the :spyder: fixed-blades are quite light, but they are all 8" long. I would like a knife no more than 6" in overall length with a SpyderEdge blade of 2 1/2" to 3" in length. Keep the weight down, use a thin handle, and you have made the perfect :spyder: neck knife.
Who's with me?

The SPOT fits fairly close in there, Ronin is PE but is great too. Also thw Swick is a nice neckknife.

SWICK is already the perfect Spyder neck knife.

A Black Micarta SPOT SE is just what you need...
(A SWICK would be nice too, but I believe those are PE only.)

If we buy enough, we can get a run of them in H-1, fully serrated. So get out there and buy one :p
Sorry, had to insert that shameless SWICK plug :D

A neck-knife out of H-1 would be perfect for me. Only time I am without a knife is when I go running. I'm nowhere near the shape I was in the Army, so a truly rustproof/sweatproof neck-knife would be great.

I don't think I'd like a neck-knife when I go running. Pretty sure it would be bouncing/swinging all over. Maybe I'm missing something?
My knife for running carry is the Tasman Salt.

If you want a 2.5 or so inch blade in a Spyderco neck knife ..., the only one is the Ronin. It's PE, but I'm thinking you might really like it. :D Spots and Swicks have much smaller blades. The Ronin is around 6 inches overall if I recall .. Check it out ..

Assuming you where a shirt when you run there is no problem with the SPOT as I've run plenty of miles with one.
The SPOT and Swick carry real well around the neck. I've never carried a Ronin around the neck, but it was designed for that sort of carry. The Spot and Swick are so very flat that they lack a print unless you like wearing skin tight shirts.
Over time, I've lost most of my enthusiam for neck carry other than deep concealement needs. Too many negatives. Near impossible to deploy rapidly. A seat belt almost always crosses the neck knife spot and I worry about what would happen in an accident (I've had pressure of leaning against a counter self deploy a kydex neck knife, so it is easy to see it happening in an accident.) In a related note, carrying a razor sharp knife over a major organ is a bit risk prone.

I have 3 Spyderco Neck knives that I dearly adore. They are the VG-10 Micarta Spot, The Ronin and I have a neck sheath I had built for one of my Dodos. These 3 are just great for those purposes. I never liked Neck Knives until I got into a couple of them that Spyderco made. But I guess I am predjudice in a way  Why after all my last name is Spydo :D
For what it's worth I have the Swick on my "gotta have" list. Long live The Great Spyder Factory

I'm a big fan of neck knives.....The spot and swick are too little in the blade dept. for me and the Ronin which I have several of and wear around the waist line are just a little too bulky to use as a neck knife (though I really like the Ronin a lot)...That something which is missing is a nice flat....light... nice size blade ....3-4 inch neck knife. Think....hmmm....imagine a fixed bladed "R2" ran over and made flat by a steam roller....yep that should fit the bill....a little kydex and we'd be good to go!....Doc :D

I like the way you talk Doc! :D I'd be in for one of these too, but let's make sure we petition for having a neck chain included on the next one. I'm still sort of surprised that the Swick came without one.

Not too much of a fan of neck knives myself, but I've always figured a fixed blade (and flattened) Native would be a great little fb.

Let me see what I can dream up with my meager graphic design skills.
This should be a challenge :p

Here you go Doc, one steam rollered, hack job R2 with some finger grooves for the fun of it, courtesy of way too much free time :p It's kinda funny looking, but hey, I had fun mangling the design. I do have a new found respect for whoever did the CAD design for the R2, that skeletonizing is a pain in the a**.

I fully agree, I use a Delica for this purpose. Just perfect.
