Hey All,

I have four computers using XP in my home all networked via Microsoft basic networking. I am sharing a couple folders from my main PC, mainly mp3's and RIPed DVDs. For some reason when I put a new file into the shared directory no other computer can access it. But, the files that have been there for some time can be accessed from any computer.

Summary; old files in a shared directory can be accessed, but new files in the same directory can not be accessed.

Hopefully this makes sense.

A little help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Rock,

Check the file attributes on the new files and be sure they are not read only - some systems copy files from hard media as read only by default, which can effect access.

My good Doctor,

They are not set to read-only. Any other thoughts? :o

Thanks!

These new files you don't see, do they end up appearing after a while? after a reboot?

I can see them, but when I try to open them up, it tells me I do not have access or permission to do so.

I started having a lot of sharing difficulties on my network after I "upgraded" to Service Pack 2. After fighting with settings, sharing, etc. I finally concluded that they don't want us to share files anymore :( . Fortunately, my secondary computer died completely before I pulled either of my hairs out :D . I never had any of this trouble under Win98. I guess that is called progress. Good luck. BTW, the only way I ever did succeed in sharing files was to set root directory for the drive AND the folder AND the subfolder to be shared openly (allow others to modify my files) ;)
