This is one BAD A** string cutter. I actually got to handle one yesterday. It has the feel of a Wegner but even MORE hefty! Well made, BEAUTIFUL too! Has a very pronounced tip and "skinner" profile, CPM 440V. The G-10 has more "texture" to it. Not a jogging shorts carry (unless you jog with your shorts slung REAL low!)

I'm anxious to see and feel one myself, I love the look of it, but hearing the few people who've held one commenting on how 'hefty' it is, has got me curious. How much more 'heftier' is it than the Wegner? I'm just curious because, as a MBC model, I'd expect it to be fairly quick handling. I recently got a CRK&T full size Kasper/Crawford folder, and though it's tough as hell, it's a bit slower to maneuver in comparison to the Militry or Starmate in (my)hand. I don't think I'm underbuilt(muscle-wise), but heavier translates to slow for me.
Regardless, I'll probably get one, I never know if I'm going to need an ogre-slayer.

"How much more 'heftier' is
it than the Wegner?" - KenN

At the BF forum, someone posted that it weighs 7.5 ozs. By comparison, the Wegner's weight is 6 oz. and the Military's weight is 4.1 ozs. So, amazingly, it's almost twice the weight of the Military, although the Military is a very light knife its size.

Hi All,

Here's the dirt on this chubby guy. LOL.. The lockback sounds like a Cadillac door closing when engaging.

Overall Length Open: 8 1/2 inches
Overall Length Closed: 4 7/8 inches
Cutting Edge Length: 3 7/16 inches
Blade Length: 3 3/4 inches
Weight: 7 1/4 ounces
Blade Material: CPM440V
Scale Material: G-10

It's hefty!

cerulean & Joyce,
Thanks for the details, I saw the post on BF as well. I'd really need to hold/move it in my hand to know it's going to ride with me.

Hopefully, they'll be some at the Spirit of Steel show down here in Dallas next week for sale?

Thanks,
Ken

Chinook: Solid and substantial can also describe the new Chinook. All real swords, real rifles or real shields are heavier than most suspect who never handle them regularly. I like it. In a world of lighter toys of all kind, reality comes back when you tote a Chinook. I have found to use it adroitly for minor things such as letter opening, cleaning the fingernails etc, it should be turned sideways. Much like a saber is held in the "Charge" position when on horseback. Flat, with curve inward, more or less wrapping around the horses head, this is the best way to access the tip. I have mine sharpened on the top of the swag about the first 3/8 of an inch. Very helpful in getting optimum performance from this "Bowie-type" blade design. The upswept tip has very definite purposes. Defensivly speaking the tip is used in a unusual manner, applied exactly as the telson (BTW: The name "Telson" is trademaked already be me and is the works) (tm JK)
The telson is the tip/stinger part of a Scorpions tail, it applies the venom in an overhand arcing manner. Some may say this is a "backcut" motion. Yes, in essence, it's light, fast, retracting motions are the way to defend with it. Any attacker unaware of this unique action will certainly fall prey to it. The application of the Chinooks tip in the defensive mode is such a "sure action" you may strike most adversaries with complete impunity, fearing injury naught. It is that slick of a trick. The belly is slung low, for deep cutting. For work upon a flat surface such belly it is nice, saves you much tedious point work that other designs make you play and slipping/sliding. Utility or tactical the Chinook can fill the bill in my estimation. And, like wine or me, it just's gets better with age !
Thanx all ! Maajak

Insightful info. maajak, thank you.
Please let this forum know when your
Chinook video is available at Comtech.
If it is as informative as the Civilian
video, I'm sure I'll find tons of good
stuff way after the first few viewings.
The particular system of MBC I study
currently is Pekiti-tirsia, and I've gotten
accustomed to moving the knife at a buzzing
speed, so I guess I've developed
oversensitivity to the weight of my carry knives.
A good reminder for me that I can't let
unorthodox conditions slow the flow.

John: Good question, but I'll take stab at it: Frank Keating is Gov. of Oklahoma, frank Chinook is a very honest, upfront freshwater fish. ? ! ?? Did I win ?
