Forum brother Clay let us know about some fancy scrimshaw the other day: http://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21987

I've been wanting a straight Moki knife and a scrimed Moki seemed like what I was looking for so I bit:

The black around the thumbstud is only old oil. Missed it during photo shooting.

So how are the Moki knives? They seem like excellent knives, but I've never had the chance to handle one.

Congrats on passing 3000 posts by the way, I just noticed

Moki seems like folks say...darn near custom quality. Although thumbstuds just aren't the same.

Didn't even notice the thread count...

All kidding aside, excellent photos of a very pretty knife.

As for quality, Moki is the company that both Spyderco and Beretta selected to produce their respective Jess Horn collaborations.

Don't they make the Ed Schempp knives too?

Don't they make the Ed Schempp knives too? :confused:Yes they do ZH, and I believe Moki may be responsible for the Kopa and Kiwi as well. I just mentioned the other two because there are folks that consider them a toss-up "best fit and finish" on a production folder.

These particular Mokis are fine knives and likely contain the most Ervina between the two scales of any other knife I've seen. They are very nicely done. Great pics Zenheretic ... What oil ... :)

I'm really pleased someone here grabbed one of these as they are really beautiful knives. I was a little disapointed in the lack of reaction to my original post but I'm glad to see I reached at least one member :) .

A couple of questions. What size is the knife? I couldn't tell from the pictures whether they were the large or small model. Also, is the scrimshaw as good in the flesh as it looks in the photos. I'm still very tempted to buy the "whales" knife and if the scrim is really nice that might just be the decider.

cheers,
clay

Somehow I missed your question until just now.
It is approximately Delica sized, if you require pics just let me know. As far as how good the scrim is?....well my camera is a modest 4 megapixal camera about the size of a man's wallet...no magic photography here. Therefore, I would have to say the scrim is probably better than the pics. The company shipped right away and was well packed. One thing however was they never sent any "it is on its way" emails. Not really a problem for me as I live only one state away and it arrived in about two business days. Since you live a bit farther than that, you might request some shipping confirmation. ;)

Thanks ZH. Sounds like it's the larger model. I was hoping it might be smaller as that would give me a good excuse to buy it :). Still I do like whales :D.

take care,
clay
