View Full Version : A New "Toy"
Not sure if this was OCD inspired or not, but I don't really care... :D
I stopped by the gunshop yesterday on my way home from work (usually not a smart idea, given my lust for guns is up there with my lust for knives).
Just browsed around, and noticed my favorite gunnie had an H&K USP in 9mm sitting in the case. No holster wear on it at all. Hell, it's unfired, or if it's been fired, less than a box has gone through it. Very few marks/wear on the slide, it's lucky if it's been cycled a couple dozen times.
I drooled at it and left.
On my drive home, I recalled the USP I used to have in .40 caliber, and how obscenely accurate and reliable it used to be. And what a jackass I am for selling it.
Mentally, I began inventorying my meager gun collection and what I might have to work a trade deal. Did some cleaning for the wife at home (bribery?? :D ), and soon we were on the way back to the gunshop.
Well, it took an arm & a leg, with a left testicle thrown in, but I traded enough stuff to come out with that H&K. The 9mm works well for me, because that's the caliber of the pistol I traded for it, and I have lots of 9mm ammo at home, so I didn't need to spend any money on ammo. In fact, I didn't put out one cent to get the H&K.
Now I'm itching to get it to the shooting range to see what she can do. I know I won't be disappointed.

Congrats on the new HK. I used to have a USP Compact in .45, but sold it. I COULD drill tacks with it, but it was too big for my hands.

You lucky devil, just walk in some gunstore and buy whatever beauty you like.
In my country only the bad guys have guns.
According to our esteemed secretary of justice, and he really said it, we just have to shout BOO when someone tries to rob us.
How about if i traded some Delica's in ZDP with you for a Glock 19 ? :D

Aloha Jim,
Hey congrats brother...the timing was just right I guess, huh? ;)
Great choice...the USP 45 I shot was smoother than heck...I can only imagine how well the 9mm performs!
God bless and stay 360IJN

Very good choice. :)
I love HK firearms. My brother in law has an HK .45 and it rocks.
Nice snag.

Congratulations on the new gun. HK is a quality product, I bet it'll hold up for many thousands of rounds.
Thanks, guys!
I'll let you know how it performs as soon as I get it to the range, though I'm sure there'll be no surprises.
The .40 caliber USP that I used to have was the most accurate pistol I've ever fired. I was shooting rocks on the backstop 75 yards away with ease, once I figured out how far the bullet would drop. 100-yard shots with these type of pistols on still targets are no problem.

Now that's more like it!! :D A good find Jim. But I'm dying to know, what did you have to give over to get the HK?
The USP had hit the streets for about a year before the cartridge handgun ban in the UK. Like your original. I managed to have a go of a friends .40. A good gun, but for me, polymer and alloy framed pistols just seem to "torque" that little bit too much for my liking. And don't worry about the 9. With modern ammo it's right up there in the "stopping power" game!

Congrats on your new H&K Jim, enjoy it :D
I traded my Glock 17 (the older version, without the accessory rail), and an Enfield Jungle Carbine. The Jungle Carbine had been drilled for a scope, though, so it wasn't worth as much as most others as a collector.
Simon, I agree about the 9mm's power; I've talked to many people who've been shot with various calibers, and no one could tell what they'd been shot with, until the bullet was dug out later on. And the 9mm has plenty of bodies to its credit.
Many of today's 9mm loads deliver pretty much as good a stopping potential as other calibers. Note: Stopping Power is not to be confused with the mythical, magical term, "Knockdown Power", which is a figment of many peoples' imaginations.
Shot placement is far more important than whether or not a shooter is using a cannon round.

Hey Jimd, that's a great choice of gun there! I have a particular liking for anything H&K and i have to say, one of the most fun pistols i have ever shot was a H&K Mk23 Socom. And i have tried a few...
The USP in 9mm. Is a good choice of handgun, i believe it to be right up there with the Sig's. (my favourite handgun is a SIG P228)

That is a damn good trade! You're dead right as far as that Jungle Carbine is concerned, one of the biggest white elephants in military armaments! But some fellas love them even though originals won't shoot for toffee!
360IJN, Jim.

Simon, I've owned four of them so far, and loved every one dearly! This last one, I didn't have long enough to actually fire. But the other three exhibited no signs of the infamous "wandering zero" that people so often talk about. There are times when I think the wandering zero tales are just that...old wives tales of yesteryear.
Each one was dead on and very accurate. Light, short, powerful rifles. I hated to give this one up, it was going to be my hunting rifle this fall. But dammit....that H&K kept calling to me. It was insistent, I tell ya! :D Darn thing jumped off the shelf, into my hand, and followed me home! Now how could I say no to such a cute thing as the USP?
