i recieved my SS Harpy in the mail today. i finally sent it in for sharpening and repairs, had it since 2002. the the tip had a big nick in the edge, and it was missing 2 of the three screw on the pocket clip in addition to being somewhat dull (it had never been sharpened). in the second picture you can really see how much this knife has been through. i've pretty much full on thrown it directely at a concrete floor before, which was an accident as i was trying to flick it open.

they appear to have put a new grind on it as i don't remember the serrations being that aggresive before. i may be wrong.

I thought when you sent it into spyderco for sharpening they just used the sharpmaker.

looking at the old and new picture the Spyder-edge has definitly been re-ground. it's signifigantly thinner and the serrations are different.

Looks great to me, you can't beat the factory sharpening. I got them to sharpen my Dodo when I was in Golden, and they put a a new grind on it, looks brand new.

I need to send my PE Harpy in sometime, I can't get it sharp at all. How long was the turn around?

about a month i'd say? for free that's great if you ask me.

:spyder: try the 701 profile stones. the rounded corners fit hawkbills and serrations much better than the 401 stones. :spyder:

Fairly certain they regrind it.

When I've sent knives in they come back with a better than factory edge imo. Completely reground, tip needle sharp, etc...

Wow! That's a nice looking re-grind job.

I may have to re-evaluate my thoughts on sending SE blades back for sharpening. The two examples I've seen didn't look near that good. Maybe thier making improvements.
