View Full Version : Changing Pocket Clip?

Please excuse me if this has been discussed before, but I'm unable to locate a thread on this using the search function.

My question is: what kind of tool do you need to undo the screws(?) on the pocket clip? I'm not talking about the 3 little ones on some of them - I've got an Endura model that has retainers (Screws?) that have a hole in the middle, and 4 very wide, shallow grooves going out to the edges.
I've tried all my screwdrivers, but the grooves are so shallow, they just slip out.
Do you need to order a special kind of tool?

BTW - what ever happened to the plastic clip that was molded on the handle? I have an old Endura that my daughter found in the woods on a camping trip (got me converted to Spyderco from my usual Buck knives...). I really like the plastic slip 'cuz it doesn't get bent out of shape, come loose, etc.
Thanks for any help with what is probably a very easy answer that I just can't figure out! :o

I've used a nickel before on the barrel bolt clip screw. You'll have to have one for each side, hold one side and unscrew the other.

Removeable clips replaced the frn integral clips (the molded ones you were talking about). It's a shame, because those plastic clips didn't scratch walls/cars/etc. when you rubbed up against them.

The best tool to take off the clip you're describing, are two coins on either side of the clip. Screwdrivers work, but they won't fit 100% and they tend to scratch the surface of the screw assembly.

Thanks for the ideas - I tried the coins, and while they still wanna jump out of the slots, they worked better than the screwdrivers.

Will - I agree with you about the plastic, molded on clips. Besides scratching things, I've also noticed that they don't wear a hole in my pocket where they clip on like the metal ones seem to do on my cargo shorts.

Just for your info, this is the reply I got from Spyderco when I sent them the same question. (You guys answered a lot faster!)

>>You will need a torx wrench size T6. You should be able to pick one up at any Home Depot, that is where we get ours:)

Amanda gave you the advice for the new Delica 4 / Endura 4 clip. This ones are indeed fitted with three torx screws. The barrel bolt clips need only a couple coins.
