I hit a nasty pot hole on the way to work today. Came home and noticed a tire was flat. I think I drove 45 mi home with a flat!! Tire looks ok, no major sidewall damage. Replaced with a temp spare, noticed that the lip of the wheel was bent enough so that the tire couldn't seal.

I don't have my camera with me, but do you guys know if those generic steel wheels that need hub caps can be bent back easily? Do most auto shops fix these kinds of things?

I found a website thats selling a new one for $74 including S&H. Don't want to spend that much.

Thanks!!

Did you try a junk yard for another rim? Bent rims usually get junked for safety sake. A good used rim goes for about 20 bucks in my area unless it's for a special size tire. Then it may go for 30 bucks or so.

Not yet, haven't got the chance. Found some used on eBay for $40 shipped.

Most steel rims are fairly malleable and can be hammered back into shape. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS (even though I have done it in the field. I have also filled tires with propane to get back to town. Also a bad idea, but it beat walking 35 miles to a gas station). My advice is to junk that dude, and check the salvage yards for a replacement.
