View Full Version : Mini Manix - Kiwizilla

First there was the Manix, but it was too large for some. Then there was the Mini Manix.
On the other side of the scale is the Kiwi. An excellent knife, very classy and the blade shape is perfect. I really like how there was a smaller version of the Manix but what about a larger version of the Kiwi? I love my Kiwi, but I wish I had a bigger version of that knife for large tasks (and something that fills my hand).
Has anyone else ever dreamed of a Kiwizilla?

Nooooooo, heck, I like it as is. Maybe you might take a look at the Cento 4.

I maybe way off track here, but isn't the byrd Pelican basically a large Kiwi? I know handle egro's are different, a slight difference in tip and spine on the blade, and the fact that it's not a "true" Spyderco, but to my untrained eye, I think that they would perform similarly.

Isn't a Delica sized Kiwi one of the Deacon's dream knives?
I know he'd probably be all for it.

the deep choils i think would translate well into a large knife. i would buy a 3"-ish Kiwi in a second.

Yeah, a Delica sized Kiwi would be great, maybe just under 3" for legal reasons.
I've been wanting a Kiwi, but I've been wondering if it's too small for my EDC and too large for my keychain knife. I guess I'll have to buy one to actually find out!

I would be really interested in a knife like that especially if the blade shape looked like The Deacon's dream knife:

With screw construction and G10 handles, yes, so would I.
I am not one for the ornate or exotic handles, so if it were jigged bone or whatnot, forget it.

I actually made a cardboard mockup of a just under 3" bladed Kiwi. I felt quite good in my hand and seemed like it would be reasonably comfortable to use. I love the idea, am just not sure what the market reaction would be. I still would like to find someone willing to build me a custom one.

If you find someone willing to make a kiwizilla, let me know so I can beg them for one too!

COUNT ME IN FOR A 3 IN. KIWI!!!
It would have to have a clip, much to Paul's disliking :p.

yeah i'd like it in SS with a clip. i don't carry much Kiwi much due to the lack of clip.

Could be a few versions perhaps! Some that have no clip, some that have a clip. I wouldn't want a clip on a jigged bone kiwizilla, but I'd love one on a G10.

G-10 with bolsters could be a very interesting look i think.

G-10 sounds great to me, or maybe this would be a good candidate for stabilized wood.
In any case, I prefer the original blade shape, but thats just me.

Hello Mr. Dedguy ! Try a WH small sheath for the Kiwi ! Great fix for a small problem . Cheers !

In either blade shape, a Kiwizilla gets my vote - especially if a bigger blade leads to a full flat grind. Less than 3" blade (2 3/4 would be plenty, lets not go crazy here). I heard a rumour that the original Kiwi was intended as a slipjoint but there wasn't room for a strong enough spring - bigger frame=more room=make it a slipjoint=UK legal fun. "nuff said

How rare are the dinosaur bone kiwi's actually, i found one in a shop in Sweden.
The owner asks 3300 SEK for it, now i don't know how much that is in dollars, but in Euro's it's quite a lot of money, :D
So who knows ?

Howdy kwakster :)
3300 SEK - about $457 U.S. Dollars, which is more than I would want to spend for a knife.
NGK has them listed for $150, but they are out of stock.

I love the Kiwi, but find it a little small, and it not having a clip is a major turn off. If Spyderco would produce a 2.5" - 3" Kiwi with a clip, I'd be in Spydie heaven!

And fully serrated as well(sorry Deacon :o )

Serrations?! Now.. I'm a huge fan of the Spyderedge, but I don't know about defacing the beauty of Kiwizilla with serrations.
