Now is always the time for a New Hawkbill  Using is believing my friend. Just getting someone to take the plunge takes a lot of persuasion or the right set of circumstances ;)

I want to lead a Hawkbill Revolution  Because if people would just simply carry one for a couple of days that would be all it would take.

I am so glad my friend that you have taken that SO IMPORTANT STEP>> The tool vaue of a Hawkbill can't hardly be explained in words. You just have to use one. It's something only a true Hawkbill brother can verify or testify to. Just ask Michael Cook if you don't believe me :)

Doctor Lecter please tell this newest of converts what awaits him. You know Doctor I am now seeing the absolute importance in doing what we talked about doing almost 6 months ago. We really need to get a Hawkbill video. If we could convey the value that the Hawkbill plays in the cutlery arena then Mr. Glesser's lacking sales will be a thing of the past.

And to you my fellow Forumites when the Superhawk is finally released we need to buy up all them we can to make this knife a sterling success to reward Mr. Glesser for taking the big step he has taken in bringing us this important new model. Also to get the word out that there is a NEW HAWKBILL amongst us. I am sure if Doctor Lecter has his Script pad handy he will prescribe at least 3 of them for all of us here in Spyderville

As a recent convert, I have to say that to use one is the only way to understand and appreciate a hawkbill blade. They look menacing to some folks, of course, but they are much safer to use than a traditional style blade when making a pulling cut. They do take a bit of geting used to, though, but that's why carrying a little guy like the Spin as a backup is a good plan.

AMEN, MC!!

I can't wait to see the Superhawk- I know I'll get at least two! My PE Merlin and G-10 Harpy are getting lonely... :p

Dear Friends,

And to you my fellow Forumites when the Superhawk is finally released we need to buy up all them we can to make this knife a sterling success to reward Mr. Glesser for taking the big step he has taken in bringing us this important new model. Also to get the word out that there is a NEW HAWKBILL amongst us.

The knife industry is like any other - supply and demand. When demand dictates, supply will follow. If we show that the demand for hawkbilled blades exists, I belive that more production will follow.

Buy the Superhawks, Dear Friends. Make them disappear from the market at an alarming rate. The best way to show that hawkbills are an in-demand blade type is to buy them up.

VWTattoo, you're right on the money there, the hawkbill needs to be *used* to be appreciated....

one of our ex-employees (now an independent contractor) came into the store this morning, and we got to talking about stuff in general, my Seiko Orange Monster watch (he wants one really bad), that pawnshop in Portsmouth, NH where i find my killer knife deals (like a "Q" for $5, a Vic. Swisschamp and Cybertool 34 for $20 ea....), and knives in general

I showed him my Salts (Pacific and Salt 1), got to talking about how only H-1 and VG-10 survives the salty air at home unstained, absentmindedly i pull out my Harpy, and flick it open and closed....

"Whoa!, is that another Spyderco?"
yep, the Harpy
"You really like Spydercos, huh?"
yep, they make the best user knives out there....
I put the Harpy on the table, closed, and he picks it up, opens it...

"Whoa!, you could really hurt someone with this"
<scoffs>Pffft, *that*? it's just a tool, it's a *great* utility blade, you want to talk point control.....
I take the Harpy back after he closes it, open it up, and show him the index-finger-on-the-spine precision cutting grip. close it, put it on the table, walk over to the pile of cardboard boxes, grab a small box, hand it to him, and tell him to give the Harpy a try on this box....

the Harpy sails through the box easily, and i see a *huge* grin appear on his face
"Whoa!, that's *COOL*, definite point control there"
(suddenly, the Harpy's no longer a "scary" knife, but a useful *tool*....)

I think he understands now....

and, inspired by the rash of Hawkbill related threads recently, i'm adding the Harpy back into my daily EDC, it's my *duty* as a member of the "Cult of the Curved Blade" to spread the good news about the utility of hawkbills and to try to dispel their reputation as a "scary blade", it'll ride proudly with my Dodo, Cricket, and Salts....

the best way to spread the Hawkbill addiction is to *use* these tools daily, short of food prep, there's no duty a hawkbill doesn't excel at....

Hear, hear! I concur!

I love hawkbills or any blade with an unusual curve in it. My Dodo goes wherever I go, and if I could find a PE (non carbon fiber) Harpy, it would come home with me. I can't wait to see the Superhawk. Will it be in PE? :D

:spyder: As if one can't beat someone to death with a chairleg or a phonebook or a cresent wrench. One can strangle someone with a rolled up magazine. Martha Stewart wine goblet? Break it and it can be used to spill someone's life blood.

Hundreds of children choke to death every year on their cute little fisher price toys but who cares? Cute little armless toys don't bruise the sensibilities of women and weak minded girly men. How many chillen died last year from Spyderco harpy wounds? I'd venture none. :spyder:

But what if 'E's got a *pointed stick*? ;)

It's actually kinda' nice when a freind/aquaintance/family member makes a "sheeple-esque" comment about knives in general, and my Spydies in particular, because I *know* I can react with scorn and derision to their stupid remarks and *call* them on their stupid behavior, without the risk of them getting "insulted" and complaining to "management".

I don't insult them or make fun of them, I just downplay their deluded idea that I would use the knife in an offensive manner, I react like it's the stupidest idea I've ever heard, sometimes I act insulted that they'd even *think* that I'd do anything evil or antisocial with what is quite simply a *tool*.....

sheeple comments deserve nothing but scorn and derision

And it's even funnier when the same person's views suddenly change when i hand *them* the knife so they can inspect it/try it out, suddenly it's no longer a *weapon*, but a *tool*....

it's almost like you can break sheeple behavior down as such....
"knife in someone else's hands = *weapon*"
"knife in *MY* hands = *tool*"

wheras *MY* mindset is different...
knife in anyone's hands = *tool*
the *real* weapon in this case is the human mind, it's not the knife, it's the intent of the person holding it

of course, i'm preaching to the choir here.... ;)

Michael again you have struck a very important chord with me. The phony, altered, skewed and misrepresented statistics that they use to demonize guns & knives is so unbelievably full of deceipt you would think that some sleezy mainline politician compiled them  .

A very true statistic however that Larry Pratt ( Top GuY at Gun Owner's of America) used back in 2003 when he was debating Sarah Brady ( traitor) and another woman from some urban league were both saying that handguns and various other weapons should be all banned because of the kids they end up killing. Well that same year according to the government's own statistics there were about 3 times as many kids that year that were killed with household cleaning chemicals, shopping carts, and freak accicdents of all varieties. Not to mention all the kids that were killed that same year by needless automobile accidents. And you never hear of tighter restrictions for giving out a driver's license or "Household cleaner control". There is much more of a case to illegalize all the stuff I just mentioned than there is with weapons of any type.

HAWBILLS are getting that same kind of mindless, baseless and senseless demonization with absolutely nothing to back these falsely manufactured fears and pre-conceived notions at all . I say these "wimps" as Michael prefers to call them ( I have stronger language for such vermin) need to get their ducks in a row>> and either put up or shut up . This is probably hindering, discouraging and dampering sales of a great tool that every knife lover should learn to use and learn it's great tool potential. Education is often the solution for a lot things. And hopefully by educating well meaning people ( the non brainwashed) you can eradicate false fears and baseless apprehension of Hawkbills :(
