Yup, it's official... :-(

The new FAA security rules now instituted following the terrorist attack are no carry-on knives on any flight, period. This includes PLASTIC knives. This is now more restrictive than any other country in the world.



Even more, "The new measures will also ban the sale or use of knives -- metal or plastic -- at most areas within the airport. This includes concession stands or retail shops." (CNN)

Does anyone know if this is a temporary thing or if it is going to be the policy from here on out? What about forks, sharpened pencils, screwdrivers, scissors etc? Those items can be used as weapons just as easily as pocketknives...

I realize I'm "preachin to the choir" with this post, but this really bothers me...

Just mentioned to my coworkers in a discussion this morning that I thought this was coming. I know in the past I was able to walk right onto a plane carrying my Endura.

I am struggling with the part about not having any knives in the secure areas of the airport, because knives really are useful tools. For example how will the Chili's or other restaurants slice their tomatoes or lettuce in the kitchen? When the papers are delivered with those plastic straps to the newstands, how will you cut them open? When the Barnes and Noble has books delivered in boxes how will you get them out? I think all of the effort to make airports a more pleasant place to be while you wait for your flight or for a friends arrival have just gone out the window.

Well, you won't be waiting for a friends arrival there, because no one without a boarding pass will be allowed past the metal detectors.

I just flew two weeks ago from denver to indianapolis and back again with my military, cricket, and meerkat. It's going to be weird not having one of the boys with me on board but i suppose it is for the best at this point.

I did not realize that knives could ever be brought on to a plane? I guess you learn something new every day.
