VampyreWolf, others…
What is the size relationship between the Wegner (C48) and the Wegner Jr. (C49)? I was just looking at a Wegner and wondered about this. I know it’s discontinued, but I may come across one somewhere.
I think the full sized Wegner is the one for me, but I was interested in the difference. I’ll bet the Jr. is a sweet little knife.

Wegner jr has a blade of 2.875(2 7/8)
Wegner Sr has a blade of 3.625(3 5/8)
I find the 3-3.5 range ideal for daily use, so either would work well.
We have both up here, swords.ca
C49 is $130, 70-80 US
C48 is $180, 100-110 US
Good luck...

Here is a pic of some Spydie linerlocks in closed position. The subjective difference in "feel" is probably more than can be gathered from the picture, especially between the Jr and the Military at the top.
The Wegner Jr is a solidly built efficient cutter. It could benefit from a choil, as designed into the new "not-a-Lynx"

VW, Chinook - Thanks guys...
Chinook, I appreciate your posting the picture. Do you have one taken of the Wegners in the open position?
VW, I'm writing from Edmonton. Is the Wegner (full size - C48) that Cutting Edge has in stock a plain edge model? I so, I may just order it from them. They don't have one in stock here in town.

Check out thier site, and order form the calgary location. it will take less time. The prices are the ones on the tags currently.

Chinook,
I was just looking again at the picture you posted of your folded linerlocks...is the knife positioned second up from the bottom a large Wegner (C48), by any chance? I see that the bottom one is a small Wegner (Wegner Jr.) as you mention.
Thanks, Jeff/1911.

The one second from the bottom is a large Wegner. The top one is a Miltary and the second one is a Starmate.

Thanks Dennis
I should have ID'ed them better.
Jeff/1911...
That pic is not mine, butt I have all of those knives. I need to re-set up my scanner. Its in a box somewhere around here. I'll scan the Wegners in open position as soon as I get it working.

Thanks Dennis for the description;
Chinook, I'd really like to see a picture of the knives when open. I'm quite excited to get a large Wegner. I am looking forward to finding out about the wonderful versatility and utility this design offers. This knife seems to have a lot of fans.

Well, its working... sorta.
Here is a scan of my two Wegners. Note that the large Wegner has been modified a bit. The handle profile in the mid-finger area has been smoothed a bit.

Chinook,
Thank you for sending this image! That is most helpful. In spite of my knowledge of the actual dimensions of these two models, I had not fully grasped the considerable difference in their size.
The small Wegner is a neat little knife, but the big one is definitely the one for me! Perhaps later I may also wish to get a small one. We'll see about that.
The reason I asked earlier for clarification about what knives were shown in your "linerlocks" image is that I was surprised to see the large Wegner as appearing to be about the same size as the Military. I had viewed a couple of images from Knifecenter's advertising pages, where I thought I had resolved the fact that the Wegner was considerably smaller than the Military. Have a look at this: (image 1)
It seems that perhaps this picture shows a SMALL Wegner next to the Military, with an Endura at the top of the page. I had thought this to be a large one. Do you think this is correct...is it a small model? If so, the Endura seems small. Now wait a minute. That IS an Endura...isn't it?

Pictures can lie, or at least distort the truth. The pic I posted of the knives in closed condition appears to have been taken with a camera at an angle to the surface. You can note the lines in the square pattern and count them to get a better idea of the true proportions.
I used a flatbed scanner which has the knives in the same focal plane so it is easier to compare them (butt harder to keep the blades from appearing black)
In the pic you posted that is an Endura on top, then the C48 Wegner(large), then the Military. A lot of the difference is in the length of the handle. The Military is designed to provide different grips and accomodate gloved hands. The Wegner is heavier than the Military with most of that settled in your palm due to its full length steel backspacer and one full length liner.
I feel sure you will like the large Wegner, I cleaned 5 salmon with it last week and it was a joy to use.

Chinook,
I figured my confusion was the product of something like that; prospective of the pictures taken.
I am interested to hear that the Wegner works well as a fish cleaning knife. That's great! What does this knife not do well?
I am looking most forward to getting mine, and I'll be sure to write in detail about my findings and experiences once I do and have had a chance to try it out.
Thanks again, Jeff/1911.
