My next Spyderco purchase is probably going to be the Sharpmaker.
However, I am also considering a PlainEdge Police model to add to my growing Spydie collection.
Would you guys recommend the flat-ground,G-10 one, or the hollow-ground, Stainless Steel one?

I have the G-10 PE and it is a nice piece. I don't find it to be too light and the grip is very sure. I just can't bring myself to buy an SS because of the grip slip potential.

I have the SS w/serrated blade and the G-10 w/plain edge. I place more importance on the blade rather than the handle when deciding which one to use for a given task. For heavy cutting, the hollow ground--that now only comes with the SS handle--is my choice. IIRC correctly I think Sal mentioned that there were some G-10 models that were made--in error--with the hollow ground blade. If you know that you will not likely need heavy duty cutting, then you probably could go with the G-10 version with its thinner flat grind blade. I like the SS handle because it give the knife a little more heft and facilitates smoother insertion and extraction from my pocket. To improve the grip, I read where some people applied "stair traction" strips on the handle with satisfactory results. Bottom line: The SS Police with plain edge would be a good EDC (but only if you already have an SS Police with the serrated blade). You gotta have 'em both. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I own pretty much all the handle types available from spydieland...

no almite or ti yet...
I would rate them with G-10 just barely above SS for beating resistance. I've scratched my SS dragonfly many times, and have yet to see any change in the G-10 handle on the Wegner jr(and with longer at work).
g-10 for use, SS for looks.
flat for play(smooth as hell), flatgrind for work... need I say more?
We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

You must play with them both and decide which is right for you. They are both fabulous knives. I recently made this decision myself, and now have acquired both the serrated and plain edge stainless steel models.
I went through an elaborate decision making process, decided clearly that the G-10 version was the more practical choice, then went and bought the stainless steel variety because I was so taken with it's appearance, slimness and heft. It's heavier, slimmer and stronger-feeling than the G-10 version.
I'm sure the strength perception is mostly (or completely) subjective but it's there for me.
As my buddy say's of the stainless steel handled Spydies..."Just love that glide" referring to the way the ss handles glide in and out of your pocket. Simply put, they are a work of art.
But the real question is, do you like them?
Jeff/1911.
My Police is one of the Titanium full serrated ones, and the only thing I would have carried in it's stead (I'll never get rid of it) would have been a G10 Police with the hollow ground blade. I knocked the tip off my Police a number of times (to the poin that I quit retipping it with a fine point), and that thin point on the G10 flat ground version always concerned me. I'd be popping that thing off left and right without trying.
Its all fun and games til somebody loses an eye, then its fun annd games you can't see.

I personally prefer the SS version. I own both a plain and a serrated. I like the blade design better on this version, too.
