Well it look's like Al Qaeda's at it again...

As you may well know by now, 19 arrests were made in the UK
of suspected terrorists who(m) were plotting to blow up jet liners
heaeded towards the US. The result -

* No more liquids in ANY form on board flights ( not even so much
as a bottle of Poland Spring water! ) this means beverages, deoderants,
shampoos or make-up ( sorry ladies.).

So, whats next?

What say the augurers?

AET :D

that just means you can't carry these items on, not that you can't put them in a check on bag.
It doesn't bother me at all. I'll gladly take my shoes off and get all detected up and searched and ... and... whatever else they want to do. I like living and if that's what it takes to make sure that terrorist don't blow up another plane, so be it.

We will do whatever it takes and until we see the threat for what it is we will continuously be making these incremental steps. Personally, I don't care if we have to fly naked to meet snuffaluff's living requirements.

Al qaeda is merely the most recognizable face we put on terrorism. It's going to take an ideological shift in our thinking to face the Islamofascist terrorists head on. They've been at this since WWII and their ultimate goal is the erradication of Israel and bringing down the west. The "religion of peace" can only be spread by the sword in their eyes and death to all who do not subscribe to their perverse form of mob rule - including their own people.

Are your rights disappering?? Those who complain about their rights need to review their history. The Sedition Act and Espionage Acts pushed by President Wilson in 1918 were some of the most restrictive legislation passed to curtail freedom of speech, deny the right to assemble, and muzzle the press in America. This was done to control the public's opinion on the war effort and to keep from harming the morale of troops deployed to the front. It impacted the Health Department's ability to fight the 1918 Influenza pandemic and contributed to the more than 500,000 deaths here in America.

FDR also limited the press during WWII and we interred countless Japanese in camps for our mutual safety. This administration's efforts so far are not out of line and in view of the NYT's and other left slanting media's continuous battles for exclusives in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the War on Terror in general do not go quite far enough. Think we're not really at war???? Check out Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West. I have to fly for the first time sometime next January. This **** is not making me any less nervous.

Do what's got to be done, and I don't care who it inconveniences. We're too worried about offending people and being politically correct. We need to focus a little more on protecting ourselves and less on being polite.

Well, I guess it is time to tell the terrorists they win, ban air travel altogether, outlaw fuel burning ocean liners and go back to sailing ships. We are engaged in a war that can only (possibly) be won by genocide. Are we prepared to be as extremist as the people we are fighting against? I don't think so. The war cannot be won, only fought.

Friends

Terrorism in the name of Islam has one aim. I have heard young muslims in the UK saying that it is retaliation for the US/UK involvement in Iraq but they need to look back further and also take note of the words of their leaders!

In most cases, the jihadi terrorists have a patently self-evident ambition: to establish a world dominated by Muslims, Islam, and Islamic law, the Shari'a. Or, again to cite the Daily Telegraph, their "real project is the extension of the Islamic territory across the globe, and the establishment of a worldwide ‘caliphate' founded on Shari'a law."
Terrorists openly declare this goal. The Islamists who assassinated Anwar el-Sadat in 1981 decorated their holding cages with banners proclaiming the "caliphate or death." A biography of one of the most influential Islamist thinkers of recent times and an influence on Osama bin Laden, Adullah Azzam declares that his life "revolved around a single goal, namely the establishment of Allah's Rule on earth" and restoring the caliphate.
Bin Laden himself spoke of ensuring that "the pious caliphate will start from Afghanistan." His chief deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, also dreamed of re-establishing the caliphate, for then, he wrote, "history would make a new turn, God willing, in the opposite direction against the empire of the United States and the world's Jewish government." Another Al-Qaeda leader, Fazlur Rehman Khalil, publishes a magazine that has declared "Due to the blessings of jihad, America's countdown has begun. It will declare defeat soon," to be followed by the creation of a caliphate.
Or, as Mohammed Bouyeri wrote in the note he attached to the corpse of Theo van Gogh, the Dutch filmmaker he had just assassinated, "Islam will be victorious through the blood of martyrs who spread its light in every dark corner of this earth."

So let's not pretend that this is anything new or dress it up to be something it isn't! In war the first victim is truth, this is no exception!

Ken, I think it's safe to say that the non-Muslim world is divided into two camps, those who understand what you are saying and realize the implications of it, and those so naive as to think that "peaceful co-existence" between Islam and the rest of mankind.

To me, the only question open to debate is whether or not the response of banning liquids in carry on luggage was appropriate. My personal feeling is that it was not. My basis for that is that it either did not go far enough, since I would think a bomb in the baggage compartment could be remotely detonated, or it went too far, and sent the message to the Muslims that we fear them.

At the same time, I realize the govenment is in a "damned if you do - damned if you don't" situation. If they do nothing proactive, and an attack takes place, they will be criticized for doing nothing. If they put bans like they did into effect, they will be criticized for that, often by the same people.

On the other hand, I'm absolutely certain the response I would consider most appropriate would never be undertaken, as it would be political suicide given the number of bleeding heart liberals in this country.

The no liquid measure is pointless. I'm confident that a liquid explosive can be utilized that won't kill a person if they are pretending it is baby formula and have to sip some before bringing it on the plane. Not to mention a portly terrorist could have a breast implant liquid explosive and a fake pacemaker... The measure will only ensure the spread of dehydration induced influenza outbreaks on planes due to poor stewardess service.

What may be considered by some the most inappropriate response today might well be the only way to combat this threat at some time in the none too distant future. Our politicians have already hinted that in the interest of protecting the majority, those who would do us harm in the name of their faith may have their current human rights "changed". I would go further!:)

I think there are three camps. And majority of the people in the camp, who do not want to know anything about this conflict,as always was.

Might just be me having had too much fun with chemistry....

but one person can seriously foul up the way the airports are doing this.

Up here, the security folks get to dump them all into a big drum... maybe I'm the only one seeing this, but what who else knows what happens when you mix bleach & windex? Chlorine + Ammonia = mustard gas....
