I know this will probably cause a small stir but I should say in advance that I have not been taking on new work for some time now. (Well just on the larger stuff like these kind of rebuilds. I still do the smaller jobs like clips and stuff.) This is an old job I committed to a while back among others I still have to do. I'll add this tid bit of info for you also for you guys unfamilar with the inner workings of a knife. Spyderco really pulled off somewhat of a minor miracle of sorts with this knife. The tolerances are very very extreme on it. In fact its almost worth buying just for the tight close fit and engineering behind this knife to pull it off. Its that cool. Being able to make a knife with a back spring easy to open one handed is a minor miracle of an achievement all by itself but thats not the only thing that sets this knife up on a pedestal IMO.
Honestly I'm surprised I pulled this rebuild off at all especially on the first attempt. I thought for sure going into this one that it would need a side rebuilt or even a start over at least once to get it right but its a done deal. It will go home tomorrow to hopefully see lots of pocket time from it's proud owner. All it needs now is a a red cross on it and it would be among good company in fine slip joints.
This one sports titanium liners now with red linen Micarta scales and the closest thing to a wire clip I could come up with. I'd have loved to reuse the original clip as it was pretty cool in it's own right but my skills have limits I guess so this one has to do.
Thanks for looking.
