Hey Spyderco congratulations on the introduction of these two knives. I just received them in the mail and wanted to thank you. I was wondering where the lock strength of the Chinook was in relation to the liner lock of the Military and the compression lock of the Gunting. I have never seen such a BEEFY lockback on any knife! This guy locks up like a bank vault. The Gunting's lock design is a marvel of engineering!

Would it be possible to list the relative lock strengths in this forum?

Thanks again and keep 'em comming

Hi Dale. We can tell you that the Chinook is running in the 800 inch/lbs range exceeding our Spyderco MBC lock strength rating of 200 inch/lbs per inch of blade.

The Gunting is also exceeding our MBC lock stgrength rating.

We'd rather not begin listing lock strengths yet until our clasification system is more developed.

hope this helps.

I don't know lock strength by numbers..and I don't have a lab..BUT in real time using the GUNTING..OK, ABUSING the GUNTING as no normal person will do the GUNTING and its DRONE have survived everything I dish out...
It has beaten on SPETSNAZ...RECONs..LEO's..martial artists and survived countless thousands of openings and closings and impact lockings...
The compression lock has survived where other locks have failed me..
It is simple to use and disengage and I can close it one handed....
I have jerked unwilling people all over the place...at grappling speed and intercept timing...
all I can say is the lock is GREAT..
Thank you Sal, Vince and SPYDERCO for making the GUNTING lock so strong and simple!!!!
no buttons, no springs, no cams, just LOCK!
Because in my field..lock strength means survival...PERIOD
