View Full Version : Dragonfly Clip

I just bought a couple spydercos ... the dragonfly and the endura, both stainless. I really like the dragonfly as a daily pocketknife, but would prefer it in my pocket and not clipped to it, so I tried to take the clip off.
However, I was only able to get a single screw removed. The others seem welded in ... now they are all horribly stripped and I can't get them out. This was using screwdrivers that fit perfectly, by the way.
So has anyone successfully removed their dragonfly clip? And if I ever get it removed, what size screws and where to get them for replacement?
Thanks!
PS -- I really like the knives ... I think I want to get the lava, native, and delica also in stainless and then go from there! :)
they were probably loc-tited
use pliers to get the screws off

I should have mentioned that I tried using pliers ... even locking pliers. They are too small (and too close together) to get a good grip, even with the needle-nose variety.
Any other suggestions?

ive had luck with regrinding a slot in the screw with a dremel to use a bigger flathead on stripped screws. doesnt work all the time though, especially if you cut too deep you can pop the screw head off.

the screws are locktited in
i find leatherman pliers are the best for undoing screws like that, the only problem is that you can only undo them 1/4 turn at a time normally, they will come off eventually though
locktite will release if you get it hot enough, the problem is your blade will lose its temper if you get it hot enough too, try dipping just the end of the 'fly (open so you dont heat the blade) in boiling water, or heating it with a hairdryer, although these are probably not hot enough, they shouldnt hurt the blade either

Touching the screwhead with a hot soldering iron does the trick on Loc-tite, just unscrew it soon after as it will set back up.

If all else fails I'm sure the good folks at Spyderco could help you out.
I'm sure they have dealt with this problem a time or two. ;)

What simpleman said.
If you ever want to use the clip again(sell, etc) you will have to replace the screws. see knifekits.com for parts
