I'm thinking about obtaining a Bob Lum Tanto plain edge with the titanium handle. Some people say that the lock is less than satisfactory.Anyone out there have an opinion on that or general opinion on this knife?thanks, tom.

I had a plain edge titanium handle Lum Tanto. I was attracted toward the beautiful blade shape. This is a pretty big folder, and I found that both the handle comfort was low for me and that the liner lock concept on such a large folder was not my preference. YMMV.

Once I got the Chinook, I sold my Lum Tanto.

That said, I look forward to getting the Lum Tanto Fixed Blade.

Dude ~ The Ti-Lum folder, well contrary to some bad remarks, is one of the most increbdible spydies I've came across. Having witnessed it go down under 230lbs of pressure, I must say that the Lum Ti-Tanto is one of the strongest and most secure edge tools around... It has been discontinued and replaced by the more awesome G-10 tantos... <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I have to agree. I loved the smooth action of this knife, and it felt ok in the hand, but disengaging the liner lock did not seem to me to be as easy as it should have been. Sal did mention that the newest versions of the G-10 model have had this problem worked on.

IIRC there were some problems with the earlier models which had titanium liners, however I haven't heard of any complaints since they were changed to stainless steel. I had one of the latter models and it locked up like a bank vault. Beautiful knife, just too big for my needs.

Personally.....I rather like the ti-lum. Feels good, looks good and there are not many titanium spydies still on the market right now.

Well,I went out and obtained a Lum Ti Tanto today at the Gun Show.It seems to have a little blade play up/down, and the lock seems to slide off the blade to the very edge stopping short of failure under moderate hand pressure.I'm keeping it however and if I worry too much about this I'll contact Spyderco and see what they can do.tom.

Are some of you buying the Ti scaled Lum tantos used? The knives some posters are describing seem quite different from the one I have. First of all, I didn't know some of these came out with titanium liners--mine is numbered in the 900's and it has stainless steel liners and ti scales. So it is possible we are comparing different versions of the knife. The lock on mine engages solidly and is harder to disengage than most of my other liner lock Spyderco knives--but hey, I like that! Why would I want a knife with a lock that disengages too easily? The ti Lum tanto is the knife I would trust if I needed a sturdy folder for heavy duty puncturing chores--love that thick blade. The handle is comfortable and gives a secure grip during insertion and extraction into/out-of material being worked on. About the only thing that I wish was different is the offset alignment of the blade to the left (I would have preferred it center aligned). Overall, IMO, it is a good quality, sturdy folder. You may have to search around to avoid some apparent &quot;lemons&quot; but this knife is alot better than what some of you may have heard about it.
