About a year ago I put my old favorite the MeerKat to rest...it served me well for years...loved the clip...loved the coolness of how it closed with the Phantom lock....loves the curved blade....loved the size...loved the feel in my hand....loved just about everything about it....but it seemed to be broken as the sliding handle portion wouldn't go back into battery so to say, wouldn't line up and stuck up above the liner about 1/8"...I even posted a thread back then and others posted about similar experiences...I was dissapointed to say the least, like the feeling you get when a good friend moves away...I would look at it in the War Chest from time to time and even play with it a little and think back about the good times we shared...then back into the War Chest it would go. Tonight I took the MerrKat from the War Chest and was playing with it and my wife said which one is that...I said in a sad voice it's my old MeerKat and it's broke...she took it from my hands and said what a comfortable knife and I showed her how it was broken and she said where is the lock...and I showed her the Phantom Lock and she said it was one of the coolest Spyderco's she ever saw...which made me even more sad...I jumped up and grab a pointy dental tool and out of frustration I began picking at the inners, I figured what the heck it's broken anyway...to my suprise out pops the biggest clump of lint I have ever seen...and the knife snaps back to new again...(Don't think for a moment that I hadn't tried this before like a thousand times with no luck) I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have my old friend back in action, alive and well...I clipped it right into my front pocket next to my trusty Yojimbo a place of honor as far as I'm concerned...So let this be a reminded to one and all...pocket lint can mess up your knives...check them for lint from time to time and keep them alive and well to serve you time and time again....I'm jumping for joy!!!!!!!!!There's a MeerKat back in my life!!!!!:D :D :D :D Doc:)

Hi Doc, that's a cool story, thanks for sharing. Glad to hear your old buddy is alive and kicking (or should I say snapping) ;)
I miss my old Meerkat too. Unfortunately, it was not just a chunk of pocket lint there, but a stupid user (me  ) who irreversibly damaged the knife :(

I gotta say Doc, that story of yours brought a tear to my eye! ;)
Tears of joy that is that you were able to bring back an old friend. :)
I'm very happy for you and thanks for the pocket lint alert.

I love the meerkat and it definetly has that cool factor. I find it a tad to small to edc. but its always fun to play with. I'm glad you were able to revive this one.

Tim: The thought has crossed my mind a few times...first I have to get the nerve up to try my hand at stand up comedy...then the book thing...these have been two of my life long dreams....I'm a dreamer...so both are going to happen...it's just a question of when...in the meanwhile I'm happy kicking butt...LOL.........Doc:D
Mr Smith: I would be up for that one for sure!..........Doc:D
Great story doc.:p Congrats having it back. That is a truly great feeling. Enjoy. I to wish I had or could find one with the recurve blade.
Peace brother
