Thanks for the pictures. They are both very cool. I especially like the "Image 2", good work knife.

Take care,

Hi Bcaffery - thanks for the pics.

Never thought I would own a neck knife, but this one might just change my mind. What was the sheath like ?

What's the deal with the blade cut-out on the lower of the two Impalas ? Looks mighty odd.

The blade cut-out on the lower of the two Impalas is a gut hook for zipping open the belly of game w/ significantly reduce risk of piercing internal organs -as opposed to a normal knife blade-, particularary the intestines.

Brian,

Thank you for taking the time to post all these photos, although I don't think my bank account is going to be very grateful . I've been putting off buying a Perrin La Griffe for years and now I know why. I can't wait to get the Spyderco version and this is one knife I'll be getting with a serrated edge. The framelock Salsa is also high on my wish list but I'm afraid the use of titanium might put it out of my budget, especially at the current exchange rate .

Thanks again,
Clay

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow, in Australia it's tomorrow already.

I always enjoy meeting Sal & getting to talk prototypes only made it better. It was my pleasure to take & post the pix. I wish some of them had come out better but, at least, we now know what they look like.

Yog, I don't specifically recall seeing the sheath but, then again, I was on knife overload so it may have very well been there.

Clay, I'm both a La Griffe & a Cricket fan so the new NK makes me very, very happy. BTW, that is the Ti version of the NK pictured & it's practically weightless. Appearance wise, the steel looks the same.

Cheers,
Brian

Actually, I'd never planned on making a neck knife. I felt that the Perrin "LaGriffe" was pretty well refined. But, we'd had so many requests for a neck knife, both at shows and on the forums, that I decided to try one. We call in the S.P.O.T. (Self Protection Option Tool). The sheath is Kydex.

Any word on the price and availability of the Impala? Will the "real" one be made in G-10 too?

Great pics, thanks for sharing! I LOVE the Impala...guess I'm going to have to save some serious beans for that one!

Hope for the best. Be prepared for the worst. You'll never be disappointed.

Thanks for the pics. I really like image 2. Image 1 is a little odd, I'd have to play with that one first.

I just looked at the Impala again, and said "Wow, I like that." (different from 'all right' in my first post )

Any news of when it is coming out?

It's not in the catalog. :

The neck knife looks like the offspring of a Cricket on steroids that had mated with a Perrin LaGriffe. Hey, call it "LaMongrel."

Once you get over the initial "eye confusion", you begin to see the versatility of the design. The butt end of the neck knife can be used somewhat like the horn on the Gunting for non-lethal techniques.

I'd buy one (in Ti). Make it!

The Impala looks like a larger Jester with a linerlock. Might be cool instead of the Pro-Grip or other similar blade styles.
