I am in the process of choosing a larger Spyderco folder with VG10 or CPM blade. I prefer a flat-ground blade.
Recently I tried Military but the grip comfort was not what I expected. The handle seems to have quite sharp eges when I compare it with other brands knives, and my feeling was as if I hold a cheap knife. I am disappointed that such a good blade is not equipped with a better handle. As to the liner lock, I thinks a knife called Military deserves something stronger for blade securing.
I have not an opportunity to handle e. g. Manix which seem to have better ergonomy. Also I am attracted to SS Police with plain edge blade.
Anyway, I like :spyder:s and my absolute favourite remains LAVA. I ordered two pieces though I have not seen the knife in reality yet.

If we all liked the same things, it would be a terribly boring world. But we don't, and that is why Spyderco makes a variety of knives. No one model will please everyone.

The Military was built to be both light and strong, and the handle shape and texture are intended to provide a secure grip, rather than for comfort or looks. If you don't like liner locks, Spyderco makes the Manix, which is about the same size as the Military, has a similar 4mm thick flat ground blade, plus an ultra strong front lock. The price for that increased strength is weight, it is almost 2 ounces heavier than the Military. Some will consider that a price worth paying, others will not. But you may not like the handle on that one either since it is also textured G-10 and fairly squared off at the edges, just like the Military's.

He needs a Volpe. But I believe Zdenek is European, and even fewer of them seem to like that design than us Staters.

I'd second going for a Manix. If you really want to, you could take a file or something to the G-10 to round out the edges. Just make sure you've got some kind of protection against the dust.

Yeah, he did want a big blade, if he could track down a flat Police then it would work. It carries well and has rounded edges. :)

There are 2 Spyders that I personally think that have exceptional handle geometries that are so comfortable you think they are custom. One of the C-58 model JD Smith and the other is the C-54 big Calypso.

If it's handle comfort you are after I don't see how you could go wrong with either one of them.

As far as Spyderco's fixed blades go I personally love the FB-05 Temperance model. Now a lot of folks hate the FRN handle for different reasons but it is so comfortable that the handle material is meaningless to me. But the ultimate fixed blade handle has the be FB-03 Lum Tanto. They are both like wearing a perfect glove to me.
