View Full Version : Oh, the decisions (help?)

Ok, I've held off long enough. I've decided that after I sell my car, I'm getting a new spydie. Something nice, something sharp, something Golden. I'm looking at knives with the "unusual" blades, and most likely G-10 handles. The only G-10 spyder I have so far is the Dodo, so that leaves a lot of options open.
So far I'm thinking:
Mini Manix
Yojimbo
Captain
Kris
Heck, maybe even a Para or a Persian.
The only problem would be that I wouldn't use the Kris too much, it is slightly over the limit here, and it's so pretty (but that's half the reason I want to get it :D)
Since I haven't any experience with these, I'm looking for any suggestions, comments, angry mobs with pitchforks?

My vote goes to the Mini-Manix. I just got one and it is one of the best knives I have ever owned. Not too big, not too small, just right...for me at least.
I would choose full size Persian. It is discontinued, but without problem you can get on the auction for around $75. I carry Persian since August and i can not imagine a day without this knife. I love it. It is in my pocket now. It is beauty, very comfortable and cuts so good. 3.5" blade is an exellent size.
Good luck.

Seeing as I am struggling with a similar choice (between the captain and the manix), I can't help you... good luck though.:D

I'm thinking about getting the Yojimbo myself. I just really like the design.

I'm surprised a Lil Temp hasn't figured into the equation? Out of the picks I would strongly recommend the Yojimbo. Do some research on the Lil T and I think You'd be impressed. Take Care.

It depends what you want to do with it. I have a mini manix, captain and a Yojimbo and out of the three I think that the Mini manix is the most useful. The Captain and the Yojimbo are both excellent designs and I love my two, I just don't feel they're 'do anything' EDC's.
Though if you can get a hold of a Lil'T I would go with that anyday. My Lil'T is first choice for EDC with the Mini Manix right behind.

Yes, I would definately love to get a Lil'T, but they are getting harder to find, and consequently, more expensive.
As for what I want to do with it, I really have no plan. Truth is, my little FRN cricket will handle most of the jobs I need to do, but I do want a hard use folder.
I know the Yo dosen't really fit the description of a hard use folder, but I just cant get the comp lock/wharnie/blue G-10 knife oof of my list.

My pick is the Mini Manix, one heck of a folder and it's the best subsitute for the Li'l Temp for the foreseeable future.

I currently own the Full-Size Manix and a Captain.
The Manix, and the Mini-Manix I handled are definite handfulls and pocketfillers. They are also built like an Abrams tank, heavy and sturdy if that's what you need I heartily reccomend them.
The Captain is a bit more compact, not as heavy...but that blade shape has made it my new favorite EDC, it can do just about anything, and it is a bit more sheeple friendly I have found.

If you want a workhorse and a heavy folder - take the Manix 83 mm ("Mini-Manix) - think twice about the Lil'Temperance ;)
If you prefer as EDC a not so heavy folder but with G-10 handles - take the Caly3. I know you don't list it, but I love this knife :D

If you want a heavy user, I'd go with the Caly3. From what I've heard, it replaced the D4 as "What Spyderco is all about".
If you want a very nice knife, super duper cutter, but not necessarily HD, I'd go with the full Persian.
SSOOOoooo what do you choose...

Caly 3, Persian (big or small, both are nice) or a full sized Millie:eek:
The Kris looks good, but I would handle before I bought that one...
